I have to second that motion.
Rarely do I hear from CD-R labels those moments of sheer clarity on a
record, often associated with those jaw-dropping, ear-opening blissful
moments on early Autechre records. While much of the recent output I've
heard from newer labels shows promise and a lot of talent, Mapping Music
really raises the bar. Tracks 1 and 4 on that disc is absolutely
breathtaking. When I listen to new music I tend to look for a balance of
both intellect (slick programming, rhythm, challenging sounds) and
esthetic (warm, lush sounds, beautiful melodies and a full range of
sound). While Chris Graves previous material showed a lot of promise, I
think Mapping Music contains tracks that demonstrate for the first time
the sheer brilliance he is capable of.

I've always felt the balance between intellectually and esthetically
pleasing sound is the key to a successful record. At least in my books.
I finally finished my first DJ mix which contains what I believe to be a
fine balance of house music that challenges the medium while still
remaining true to the house groove.
