I have to second that motion. Rarely do I hear from CD-R labels those moments of sheer clarity on a record, often associated with those jaw-dropping, ear-opening blissful moments on early Autechre records. While much of the recent output I've heard from newer labels shows promise and a lot of talent, Mapping Music really raises the bar. Tracks 1 and 4 on that disc is absolutely breathtaking. When I listen to new music I tend to look for a balance of both intellect (slick programming, rhythm, challenging sounds) and esthetic (warm, lush sounds, beautiful melodies and a full range of sound). While Chris Graves previous material showed a lot of promise, I think Mapping Music contains tracks that demonstrate for the first time the sheer brilliance he is capable of. np: "BleepbloopRadio presents: "Intellect / Esthetic" CD-R mix. :) I've always felt the balance between intellectually and esthetically pleasing sound is the key to a successful record. At least in my books. I finally finished my first DJ mix which contains what I believe to be a fine balance of house music that challenges the medium while still remaining true to the house groove. Here's a run-down on the track listing... Intro (a few bits from Steve Roach, and other sources) herbert - see you monday aquarhythms - reversion (dubtribe sounds system mix) josh brent (schatrax) - first heart beat azymuth - jazz carnival (global communication mix) terry lee brown jr - skylark espiritu - man don't cry (modwheel mix) mulu - pussycat (francious kavorkian dub) paul hester - the voyage pt. 2 tom churchill - hot air blueprint - widget beats pete moss - changing wave the timewriter - skywritings the modwheel - spirit catcher Expect the bomb to drop on this disc shortly.
