Gotta agree with Franz about Animals on Wheels. I really like a lot of Andy's stuff. I think the first track on Spunk Jazz (Hate Me?) is fantastic, really loud and nasty break and at the same time really funky. A lot of the album on Ninja Tune is really great too, the mellow "soluble ducks" in particular. I don't what anyone who is so much into Mu-ziq can have against Andy Coleman's stuff frankly. He puts out a lot of stuff that's a helluva lot better than Mealtime was too. His track on that was great, as are a few others, but on the whole one couldn't have a greater pack of generic "let's see how many offensive clicky sounding beats we can fit into each bar" music. I *love* clever, crazy, changeable drum'n'bass, I *love* Mu-ziq/Squarepusher etc and to be honest I like Mealtime a lot more than I did on first listen too, but still... Andy has a great melodic ability, much like Mikey P, but with less chessiness on the whole, which I consider a good thing. He has a great sense of humour, like Mike P again, and comes up with some great rhythms sometimes. Occasionally can do some quite offensive sounding stuff with insistent ostinato patterns that drive me crazy which I skip every time, but then so does Mike P/Mu-ziq and Aphex and Tom Jenkinson. Anyone into the Mu-ziq/Squarepusher/Plug/Dot label/etc style of idm ought to give his stuff a listen, honestly. No worse than much of the other stuff, sometimes quite a bit better. There, that's my rant.
