Wanted to say some nice things about this CD and the place I found it.
The CD has 4 very involved, primarily percussive tracks with beats that
shift and pulse, never quite staying static but not meandering to the
point of autechrisis. It's Soul Oddity with a different name, same 2
guys. The sound has matured. There's nothing as immediately catchy as
the best tracks on "Tone Capsule" (still a stunner), but there's more
depth and imagination, maybe. It sounds like they've developed some new
systems for producing systems music. The tunes, as ever, don't sound like
they use a western scale. They use a computer scale.
Boston-area IDMers may benefit from checking out Twisted Village in
Cambridge, the shop where this turned up. A top selection of
hard-to-find IDM CDs, combined with lower prices than other area stores,
and no DJ attitude.
What are these turntable kids going to do for work when they grow up?
