Mike Ink has over 70 releases on a variety of
different labels (Profan, Harvest, Studio 1,
New Transatlantic, Ladomat, Force Inc, etc).
I don't own much of his early stuff so i can't
comment on that but i can highly recommend most
of his more recent releases.
To start with, all ten of Mike Ink's Studio 1
12"s are excellent ultra minimal techno slabs
all of which are identified solely by the color
of their label. My favorites are Blue, Red,
Violet, Orange and light Green. If you want a
sampler of what's on Studio 1, check out the
Studio 1 comp cd released last year. But as
mentioned before, stay away from the Thomas
Brinkman Studio 1 remixes. They aren't half as
good as the originals.
Also well worth having are most of the releases
on Mike's Profan label. On Profan Mike Ink records
as M:I:5, Gas, Mint and Sweet Reinhard amongst
others. There are about 25 releases on Profan so
far and i have most of them. With the exception
of the Pentax People and the two Thomas Brinkman
Studio 1 variations 12"s, most are well worth
having. There is also a Profan sampler comp cd
called Kompakt 1 that will give you a taste of
the different styles on the Profan label. The
styles on Profan range from gritty basic channel
styled techno to haunting dubby ambience to crisp
minimal techno. My favorite Profan releases,
although not all mike ink releases, are Jurgen
Paape: Revel, Sweet Reinhard: Believe & M, Mint:
Phonogram, Grungerman: Hout, and M:I:5: Rondo.
A few other Mike Ink releases of note are the
KLAR 1&2 12"s, The Return of Forever Sweet on
Ladomat, the Love Inc R.E.S.P.E.C.T. rmxs on
Force Inc, the Schatrax Mike Ink rmx 12", Polka
Trax on Warp, and the two 12"s he co-produced
with M.Mayer, Frost & Heaven, on New Trans-
atlantic.
