Looking forward to some >"intelligent" responses, very close... _Raum F?r Notizen_ - Room for Notes. _Leisure Zones_ is very much an Ash International release, for what that's worth. Friedmann puts aside the basslines and the beats of his better-known projects (Drome, NUF, Some More Crime) and delivers a thoroughly experimental record - muted environmental ambience. one 77:78 piece, crafted to serve as background music for breakfasting on a balcony with the traffic in the distance (Friedmann's words, not mine...) or for entering/exiting the hypnagogic state [you know, semi-consciousness between dream and waking states]. That translates into a series of beautifully linked peripheral sounds and windy low-frequencies. something like MAIN or the Laswell/Harris _Somnific Flux_ album. very similar to what Bernhard G?nter does. especially when the frazzled electronic noises intrude. while listening to it again before writing this, dogs in the neighbor's yard started barking... i had to << the disk several times before i could be certain that they weren't actually ON the record. THAT sort of album... but it's all far from boring, _Leisure Zones_ is mesmerizing. Friedmann adds just enough sonic variety - clangs and clongs of unknown origin, metallic harmonics, vibrations of every color - to keep your ears on the music. that's very difficult to do, and the album must be seen as a classic example of its type. Friedmann explained how _Leisure Zones_ fits in with his Nonplace Urban Field recordings. but you'll have to wait for IMMERSE 003 for that... hope this helped.
