A little while ago people were discussing Tomita's music. I went and
found an old LP (hardly listenable now) from 1978 of Tomita called
Kosmos which I used to love. The Star Wars Theme is excellent - really
funky little baseline. I think I'll go and spend some money on Tomita
CDs now :)
Also listened to an old Yellow Magic Orchestra LP - BGM. Good stuff too,
I'm sure Depeche Mode must've listened to a lot of YMO!
Peter.
np: Amon Tobin - bricolage. Love it! But on track 2 there's a deeply
annoyingly flat sample. I would love the track, but I find it hard to
listen to because of that bloody horn (generic horn - woodwind or brass
instrument which I can't bother playing to identify). Anyone else find
this? It happens with sample-based music, but thankfully not that often
in quality stuff.
Speaking of out-of-tuneness, that flute solo on the first track of Saint
Etienne's So Tough is very flat too. Yargl. Wonderful band though. Great
Aphex mixes on the Hobart Paving single too - thanks GRob ;-)!
