Well I hope you consider me to be one of the 'civil' ones:) I have listened to POP (too many times) I have listened to Achtung Baby, Zooropa, etc. These albums all have one thing in common as does Depeche Mode, Nitzer Ebb, and Nine Inch Nials: FLOOD. Like I said, the music isn't even all that bad, but it's a formula, and I would extend that to say it's a Flood formula. Listen to above bands' latest muscial endeavors and you'll see what I mean. I'm not even saying it's bad-I just wonder what the motives (I mean U2) are. I know these guys are smart, do they really go to bed thinking "wow what a profound album we just made!" or do they say "Ah, another pop disc for the masses! everyone will buy it!" And they will too. Not because it's good music, not because it's bad music, but because it's U2. C'mon it's not like they've been great contibutors to what you and I know as IDM...and as far as what you said about them being popularizers, well, why can't the people who make the truly great IDM (AFX, Autechre, Carl Craig/Detroit, etc.) be the popularizers if there has to be poeple labeled as such? I've bought my share of Flood albums, and I'll probably buy some more, but to come on the IDM list and say U2 is perfect is just asking for it:) Nate Harrison Digital Magician Inc. www.digimagician.com nate@digimagician.com 313.994.7316
