I'll take John C's spotlight for a few reviews... I know I've picked up four new Dan Curtin releases in the past few weeks and love them all. The releases: The Chase 12" (Multiplexor), Purveyors of Fine Funk, Vol 3 12" (Peacefrog), Art & Science CD (Peacefrog), Deception CD (Sublime-Japan) are all top quality. My favorite is the Deception CD. Top-notch d-flavored jazzy techno with just a hint of house (as most of Dan's releases are). The Deception CD also has some excellent remixes included by the likes of K-Hand and Ken Ishii. The Art & Science CD adds a little stronger taste of house on a few cuts giving it an almost hard house kind of feel. Tracks like Airport Martini, A23, and especially One Evening at Mrs. Applebee's (Purveyors of Fine Funk mix) would fit in nicely in a set along side Ian Pooley, Christian Vogel, and Paul Johnson. The two of Dan's 12"s I picked up are split between styles. The Chase is more d-flavored jazzy techno whereas the Purveyors of Fine Funk, Vol 3 12" is very housey. The Chase can be conpared to Dan's Parallel 12" a few years ago. If you like that 12" you'll love this one. I haven't been able to find the other Purveyor 12"s so I don't know house this one compares to the others, but I like it nonetheless. So if you're a Dan Curtin fan, you've got some buying to do. :) BTW: I think that the Deception CD on Sublime-Japan is going to be re-released in the UK and/or US with additional tracks.
