So FutureSonic got good reviews from everyone except Stuart Borthwick,
which is probably a good sign. Well technical nightmares not withstanding
we had a bloody good time. Although I cancelled my talk. So for those who
actually wanted to hear me wank on a bit about the convergence of Video and
Music here it is in a nutshell.
1. Music and Visuals have always been together.
2. Music can affect video, but video cannot affect Music (it just ends up out of
place)
3. If you use new technology you are placed in direct competition with others
who use similar technology. No idea why this is the case, pisses me off
grandly. We're all individual artists, Promoters, galleries fucking listen.
you don't say to a band 'Oh what , You're going to sing. But we had someone
do that here last week.' and you don't say to a painter, 'No mate we hung
paintings on the wall the other day, yes m8 they were canvas too I'm afraid,
it's been done.' CONTENT!!! alright, Content is what counts.
4. Just say no to Computer Animation, it only reflects the hardware not the
musics emotion. cosmic is OUT!!!
5. All yer need is a Hi-8 Camera and some other buggers edit studio.
6. Video Art is seriously in the doldrums. The inspiration of dance music and
it's associated culture is the only thing that can save it now.
7. Video art over the internet will never be a serious proposition. Unless all
your target audience have ISDN and a good 40MB of RAM to play with. MPEG must
die. It's time to JStream if anything.
8. Express the music visually in atmosphere, don't go all anorak in yer artistic
style.
9. Bang a lot of nails into the coffin of post modernisim. And send a flame to
alt.art.virtual-beret.

As an aside. Heres one for the UK Techno DJ's out there. Try a record store
called Vibe Records, you name it m8 they've got it. Casey the geezer who
runs it get's the stuff from the pressing plant before the Record Label
does so you get it a good 2-3 months b4 release. current Labels I've been
getting include -
Neu Welten, loaded, blue basique, edison, reflection, reflective, series-t,
electric junk, plink plonk, fused and bruised, acid fever, force inc,
dennmarque, club craft, DUM, energized, asphodel, roxx, murmur, uturn.
Most of it you can't get in the UK anywhere else, and god it's good. give
