Greg Earle <earle@isolar.Tujunga.CA.US> typed: Speaking of Dave Clarke, the Chemical Brothers remix of his "No One's Driving" is the bomb!!! There's been much ado about the sort-of-reincarnation of our (L.A.'s) old MARS 103.1 station (as "Groove Radio"; see www.grooveradio.com) around here lately; during the daytime whenever I've tuned in, almost all I ever hear is a mix of handbag diva anthems (playlisted, so you hear them over and over ... and over ... ) and old warmed-over Disco chestnuts. Imagine my shock when last Sunday night I tuned in to their Top 15 Countdown and was presented with Dave Clarke, a great new Joey Beltram (as "JB3") track, a cool Trancer from local D.J. Taylor, and Orbital's "The Box" all in the top 15 ... Luckily, this was immediately followed by a "DJs in the mix" show which featured a slammin' exclusive Leftfield set (anyone here in L.A. that taped this???). For a brief moment, IDM commercial radio existed, and it was glorious. ----->>Unfortunately, Groove Radio is (for now, at least) spinning way too much diva/disco "music", though the occassional Depeche Mode song is pleasing. ;) The weekends do have some specialty shows (more to come soon hopefully), which are more reflective of what Groove Radio is supposed to be. Personally, I believe the house/diva/disco tunes are purely for coimmercial success. At least for now, the weekends are a better time to listen. Look at it this way...you don't have to make radio edits of all that house/diva crap. I do!
