Steven,
ST> Richard has motives--he wants to either (A) Make money, (B) Make noise,
ST>or (C) Convince the world or himself that he's completely insane. Sorry to
ST>put words in your mouth, but everyone here needs to know, Rich, if
ST>you're so not
ST>underground, then is the techno music we buy from you not a complete
ST>contridiction and redefinition of the term? Where's the "underground"
ST>stuff? Do you have any? Rich...? Hello.........
Why is the term 'Underground' used as a measure of records sold? It's
fuck all to do with how many records you sell, or limit to. Underground
is an ATTITUDE, not a BUSINESS STRATEGY. I think being underground
means taking the majors and their plastic music on at their own game,
and beating them. I completely support Aphex if he wants to bridge gaps
and introduce new listeners to his (IMO) resolutely independent and
underground music, and if he sells more records by doing a Pirelli ad,
then he deserves to.
Keeping your music within a clique is underground, yes - burying your
head underground like an ostrich.
Cheers,
SjaY.
