Perhaps a little off-topic for IDM, but these labels are both purveyors of some profoundly twisted weirdcore, and are therefore worthy of at least two or three posts of information. Praxis put out mindbendingly hard, intelligently-crafted techno. They first came to my attention with the "Qual" EP by Bourbonnese Qualk, which is still one of the crunchiest records I own, if no longer one of the fastest (I think my Delta 9 records (which are DEFINITELY not idm) hold that honor). Other Praxis material I've heard lives up to that uncompromising standard. The sounds of machines eating themselves, more or less. PCD is a more slippery fish. It's a polymorphous entity, comprising Planet Core Productions (PCP), Dance Extacy 2001, Super Special, and about a zillion other sub-labels that are used seemingly completely randomly. The most notable PCD artist is the Mover, who also records under the names Mescalinium United, Trip Commando, Alien Christ, and Lunatic Asylum. Mescalinium United, of course, is the originator of the track "We Have Arrived," which Richard James remixed to such great effect that it somehow ended up on Aphex Twin _Classics_, credited to him. I've always thought that to be a little strange. In any case, I will buy any of the Mover's records I see on sight. They're somewhat hard to find here in the States, but they're all timeless rave tracks. His music is the soundtrack for stadiums at 3 in the morning, as Derek Oliver has on many occasions. Total peak-hour fucked up weirdness. I love the Mover. (And the old Ilsa Gold records on PCD aren't half-bad either.) ozymandias . . . the self-reflecting image of a narcotized mind . . . ozymandias G desiderata ogd@organic.com Desperate, Deathless (415)278-5674 http://www.organic.com/Staff/ogd/ ::AOAIOXXYSZ::
