Only bought a couple last week due to rapidly dwindling funds, but they're
good...
Luke Vibert - A Polished Solid (Mo'Wax)
---------------------------------------
Yet another Vibert release (does this guy sleep?), not as experimental as
some of his work, but nonetheless retaining his very individual touch and quirky
brilliance. Three tracks, and if they have to be pigeonholed, I suppose trip-hop
would fit best. The title track layers strings and jazz with cool, tight
live-sounding drums, and the vibe is maintained accross 'Radart' and 'Frogs
Belly'. If you're familiar with his other work, buy on sight - essential mind
music.
Goldie - Angel (FFRR)
---------------------
Taken from the CD of 'Timeless', this should achieve pretty high commercial
success after all the music press hype of late. The 12" features the album
version of 'Angel', plus the original version of 'Saint Angel' and the 'Pesahy
Back From Narm' mix of 'Angel'. It's the kind of track that grows on you with
repeated listening, and it's sort of unsettling, as with a lot of Goldie's work.
There's a very dark and menacing feel below the surface, as the melodic passages
are intespersed with nastier phrases. Difficult to describe, but a very intense
listening experience.
On the lookout for: new Dave Angel, Attica Blues, T Power, Gescom, Model 500...
See ya
