Got it today... Soft Ballet: FORMs (VICL-2156) 1. You (Stranger Remix) by Ian Tregoning 2. Perfection (Plaid Mix) by Black Dog 3. Ride (Global Communication Dub Mix) by Reload 4. U (Double U) by Greg Hunter 5. No-one Lives on Mars (Even Longer) by Carl Craig 6. Jail of Freedom (Jailtilsli) by Autechre First impressions are very good. The Black Dog remix is kinda dark, and the rhythms sound a lot like Balil's "Parasight" and other tracks off that Rising High single. Not very Plaid, in terms of the Clear EP's sounds. Reload puts in a lengthy workout that could be off "A Collection...", kinda like "Peschi" with a bit less melody. The Carl Craig track is incredible - swirling synths and percussion all around. Autechre's track is all metallic and pulsing and throbbing - a fast beat disintegrates into slow Aphex-like distortion right in the middle, before picking up again. Nice! The art direction / design / image (of water and steam over black rocks) is by Designers Republic, but I must say this is one of the simplest DR covers ever. Very little fun with type or graphics. It's very close to the cover for "Amber" - a simple foldout reveals a panoramic picture, this time of rocks and steam and water. Who's Ian Tregoning?
