I don't know if anyone saw my original post, I'm pretty sure you can get
tons of free music off remote servers with this program. Who are these
"FREE THE MUSIC" people? Are they musicians trying to make a living with
their music. Promotional tracks for free is different, that's what MP3.com
is all about. But if you would normally go out and buy a Squarepusher album
and instead just download the whole thing for free, does Squarepusher get
anything for it? No.
I'm also at a university and Napster use is taking up huge amounts of
bandwidth, but that's not my concern. Any site that distibutes music
without the permission of and/or compensation to the artist is hurting the
artist, or at least not supporting them and helping them make more, IMHO.
When I eventually decide that producing music is how I make my income, it
would suck if everyone just decides to download it from Napster.
You know, I did that internet thing once, I uploaded an Ae track and
downloaded a Beatles track, and felt like shit. "I'm Looking Through You"
is a great song, and to go and buy the "Rubber Soul" CD would give the
artist exactly what they deserve for writing it. If everyone who liked the
Beatles only bought "Love Me Do" in the very beginning, there would never
have been a Sgt Peppers, they would've never gotten the money to cover
studio fees, producer fees, acid, etc.
I risk getting eaten up because I don't say things that are %100 free from
fault, so I could be totally mistaken on all this, let me know. Maybe I am
thinking shallow about this, but if anyone has anything to say about it,
please do, but politely if possible, thank you kindly
Dev
