Today I listened to two IDM-related things on Real Audio.
One was the Autechre "Radio" event from the Warpnet site.
The other was IDM'er Jan Hanford's "Angels" track, recorded in Dual ISDN mode
and available off of her "Vespers" page (
http://tile.net/jan/vespers.html).
The direct URL to the RAM file is
http://tile.net/jan/angels.ram ...
If you have a 128Kb or better link to the Net, you MUST listen to this track!
The sounds bounce from ear to ear, the drums clap in the middle, the hi-hats
come at you from both sides, and her beautiful layered keyboard lines
envelope you from all around. Definitely the true "surround-sound" audio
experience! Almost indistinguishable from CD. If you like beautifully done
layered melodic Trance & Ambient like I do, you'll eat this up.
The Autechre? Well, quality wise a 28.8K mono stream really can't compare,
plus it sounds "radio-y". While some of it was cool, and some of it was
really funk-eee, overall I really wasn't all that thrilled. I think the last 2
tracks on the "Envane" CDS were much more interesting than an hour of this ...
Score: Jan 1, Ae 0 :-)
