i hate to dwell on what some may consider a rather a dull thread, but there is an underlying important issue behind it. What is it about a certain musician that makes us like him indeed? Having now listened to every cylob release, it is, i believe, safe to say that cylob does not suck, and an issue brought forth was that his versitality is the key to his success. Why do you think we all enjoy rdj? This guy has mastered every genre of techno possible. Now, let's not get hungup on technicalities here because that would be missing the point. From saw2, we see that he has the ambient soundsystem thing going. From caustic window, we see that he can nail hardcore. By hearing rdj album, he shows us he can dnb and still make it sound good. The point is, he's accessible and that's what makes him better. He's released albums that can please people. If they don't like one alias, they can choose another that they may enjoy more. Is there anything wrong with that? Let's apply that to cylob. I think it can go undisputed that cylob is defintely less accessible than rdj, but it is also safe to say that there is roughly the same amount of variety in what jeffs produces as rdj does. Kinesthesia's empathy box shows us beautiful sounds that are relaxing and soothing. With his cylob alias, every record has been different. Lobster Tracks is just fucked up, but in a neat way that makes you want to listen and hear what he does. Industrial Folksongs is definitely for a limited genre of people that enjoy chainsaws cutting through sheetmetal on bad acid trips but even still, it is accessible. I can yap more and more but that would detract from the point. To say that "cylob hasn't had a good release since cylobian sunsets (which is also fantastic, btw)" is just an equally stupid of a point as some of the people have made regarding people who think cylob is good and why they're wrong (confusing rant :p). Let us not judge the "good-ness" of an artist on what we feel is good. He's more accessible than some artists and that makes him better because more people are able to listen and enjoy what he produces. (sorry if there are inconsistencies in my blurb; it's 3:20 in the morning and i'm totally d-a-z-e-d) peace, shaun -- The only certainty is that there is nothing certain Pliny the Elder (c.23-79)
