Ya'll always miss the point of things by trying to say, "it's one thing", or
"it's another thing".
Autechre has a distinct hip-hop influence to these ears (which have been
listening to real honest-to-goodness hip-hop for years). Check the tried by 12
remix or "Goz quarter" for evidence.
Obviously it's not everything to them, though. I don't hear a lick of hip-hop
soul in the noisy interludes on LP5 or the Gescom MiniDisc. But that's OK,
they are a multi-faceted group.
For the record, I dropped both the hip-hop side (tried by 12 remix; a slice of
vocal garbled-yet-discernable heaven) and the non-hip-hop side (various
artists no.9 remix; a slice of grungy 4-to-the-floor techno heaven) last night
on www.detroitpeoplemover.com - check it out. Unfortunately the tried by 12
mix isn't in there, but the various artists is.
