Dubplates don't have a built-in countdown-to-disintegration chip or anything built into them ;) "attention: this dubplate will self destruct in 5 plays; attention: this dubplate will self destruct in 5 plays" just doesn't happen. If you're extremely careful with a dubplate, it can last a long time; the problem is it's not the final version of a vinyl record, so it's not as tough and able to withstand the elements: dirt, sweat, touching it (because us humans emit body oil and our skin flakes off, etc) anything like that is going to degrade it. Wheras a final version of a record is easy to clean, dubplates are not so easy to fix up. You can beat around the final version of a record and it will withstand a lot of abuse; a dub is sortof like a baby whereas the final version of the vinyl is like the adult, so you gotta handle dem dubs with care. Hope this helps. Andrew :)
