I actually agree with you in some way. But the term "techno" sounds so unclear to me... this word is now being used for almost every electronic artist around (well, at least here and, as I could get, the same happens in the US). Aphex, Autechre, Future Sound Of London, u-ziq, orbital, are so distinctive - IMHO - that I can't figure out why I should use the word "techno" for describing all of them and some others. (Hope I am being clear in explaining what I feel about this).

Yeah, the Detroit scene. But I still can't notice very much influence by Detroit techno in Aphex's sound, for example.
