While we're at it...
This new label Dot deserves some attention I believe. Not only for being
swedes and still bringing us great music (this seemed to be an impossible
conbination before i heard the stuff from dot.), but also for having
released only four 12"s so far, and every single one of them has been so
full of quality music that they could've as well have come from any major
label (well, major, small label...:).
The first ep then, hab (dot1201), is a jazzy-drill-n-drum-n-bass-kinda
thing. dunno why they picked the name "hab" (thinking of hangable auto bulb)
since the music is actually kinda "hangableautobulb-ish"... however, this
fourtracker is imo at least as interesting as that afx one. containing
remixes from nonplace urbanfield (aka drome) and journeyman (aka woob).
then, tupilaq, "volver ep" (dot1202), comes from the at least nationally
known krister linder, who has released records before under the name "yeti"
and "tupilaq".
this is a more ambient ep, with apparent Ae, mouse on mars influences.
remixes from floppy sounds and endemic void (smashing trip into drum n bass,
well deserving that chart position mista stuart:)
quant (dot1203), is a detroitish funky electro piece of vinyl, and my
favorite of these four. vocoder voices, jazz pianos, funky beats -- i mean,
this is great! four tracks and this ep's one of the best things i've bought
so far this year. remixes from buckfunk 3000 (aka cabbageboy on ninjatune)
and roupe.
ok, the last one then... friend (dot1204). this is electro drum n bass.
clear vs. ltj bukem. funny mixture of the things that makes us dance and the
things that makes us chill, but very good. remix from kid loops.
all of these items are higly reccomended, and for advice, keep an i on dot
in the future. they have collaborations with clear, fila brazila,
bushflange, bullinuts, hip optimist (andy barlow from lamb) on the go, and
more cd:s, lp:s and 12"s are coming up in the spring/summer.
mixmaster morris and laurent garnier have already raved upon these four
releases, and two of these (friend and quant) were chosen as "12" of the
week" on the swedish national "dance radio show. if you want to contact dot
