I haven't heard the track in question, but it seems to me that a dub of a 150 bpm track would naturally run at 150 bpm as well. Reggae doesn't get that fast (I'm prepared to eat that clause), which is why we don't hear traditional dub tracks that are that fast. IMO, a fast tempo shouldn't disqualify a track if it has all the other hallmarks of dub. C. -- (chris.hilker) cspot@cats.ucsc.edu

sorry pete for my broken english. . .i suspect you'll get used to it |) first up i wasn't upset with orbitals performance. . .i was only pointing out the fact that they play the same set whereas rj's is different. . .which i believe makes for a more special *live* performance. . .

I don't think expressing my opinion translates into diefication.

I never used the word masterpiece. I mentioned J9 to illustrate diversity. Unless of course you are referring to a review i posted some time ago. But even then i didn't ever say masterpiece. Granted i raved about the dub track on it. But how often does a *real* dub track pop up on a techno 12"? Now if i wanted to use the word masterpeice i would have mentioned J4 and J5.

Lets take a quick peek in my crate pete. Hmmm, there's an old sandoz track and hey there's some old freestyle in there (loony tunes, summer slams, bones break (1+7+8) lots of old warp house(ccep,testtone,clonk,architecture,n.o.w.) warp comps, nucleus, av8, bunted dummies, brutal bill, gary burton, suad black dog, simple symphony, yikes watch out for the takamura and mo wax, lots of kenny dope, nervous, and strickly, and dear what's this black uhuru in dub?,and there's my zappa freak out, my beach boys endless summer, hey what are all these blue note records in here?, and broadway soundtracks? here's a sound effect record, right behind them are the +8's, UR's, red planets and trax, and o my some stuff on the RYKO, rey-d, cheetah, uh oh here comes the electro hip hop tracks, dj battlecat, techno kut, dj equalizer and the sounds of silence, oh god should i mention the breaks here?, ok subplates and whites galore, funky junky, miranda, bass bin twins, oh god some jungle get it pete? I would steer clear of making generalizations about people you dont know well.

what they are fed on the radio. Aside from being really wrong, it makes you sound really pretentious. In fact i wonder if dance music is the only music you listen to. If it is i wouldn't suggest preaching diversity.

What are you soft? Of course not. I put it back on my top 10's last month. Sorry, pete but i you shouldn't have questioned my diversity. Tp

I really dont think you guys are talkin about the same track. The track TeeP is talkin about is by no means 150bpm if I understand which one he's referring too. Incidentally, I have got my hands on another pair of J9's if anyones interested. flu'id (floo'-)

Its dub if you play it at 33. Unfortunately, the correct speed for this EP is 45, check the samples. Then it becomes more of the same. Dub doth not run at 150 bpm.

Who was it who was saying that Rich is the only person blazing trails in a sea of mediocrity? Looks like the stuff in your crate is very OLD, you yourself said that word many times. More confirmation that you aren't investigating or listening to much new stuff.

You wonder wrong. Aside from the occasional noize purchase, I maintain the Police list and have a small passion for American indy labels like Simple Machines. The bands I travelled to see last year were My Bloody Valentine/Yo La Tengo and Nick Cave. I don't go around making statements like "The Orb is the only innovator in music today."
