I reviewed the 12" for the forthcoming set of XDTrademarked Reviews. "Skyscraper" isn't that great. Take an average of what is on the Earthbeat comp and you'll come up with "Skyscraper".

"Sky Scraper" is the third track, and it is not much like the music from the AA album. Similar instrumentation, but very dancey and much in the vein of their earlier work a la the Earth Beat compilation. It's been discussed on the list.. I like it, everybody else hates it. Mike Mike J. Here's a review you might be interested in: Amorphous Androgynous EP [45] Astralwerks: CAROL 6102 Side 1: 1 129 Liquid Insects Side 2: 1 115 Mountain Goat 2 136 Skyscraper Comments: With just one bonus track on this EP that is not present on the album, and no remixes, this release makes you wonder just why they did it. "Skyscraper" is a spacey, rubber-sounding mover, but is definitely bottom material for Cobain and Dougans. The other two tracks are identical to the album. Summary: 6/10. Not bad, just pointless. It would have been better as a 33 with a few remixes tossed in.

On Sep 28, 9:20am, Jon D proclaimed: } i love it. } } but i love everything FSoL have done so far so who am i to judge... Then if you haven't yet you should DEFINITELY hear their remix of the new Curve single - even if you wouldn't touch Curve with a ten foot pole, their remix of "Rising" is absolutely astounding, at least as good as the tracks on Amorphous Androgynous. The Drum Club mix and the Trent Reznor mix of the other songs are pretty good too, particularly if you do indeed like Curve; but the FSoL mix is another one of those "we can call it a remix because we sampled, processed, echoed and gated the lead vocals" kind of remixes. The single is called "BlackerThreeTrackerTwo", ANXCDS 42. I also found two other cool shmoos at Ameoba two nights ago: S.E.T. in the 90's: The On-U-Sound Remix (ALCA-244) (Alfa records) 1) a~h (long version) 2) a~h (short version) This is yet another group like YMO, it seems... the long version is somewhere around 12 minutes long and the short version 9. It might as well be YMO remixed by Adrian Sherwood for all intents and purposes; I got it used for $9.95, and consider it worth that but not double that. The booklet inside, however, lists several other Japanese bands "In the 90's": YMO in the 90's (Pete Lorimar remix) (Y1500) Sheena & Rokkets in the 90's (Craig Leon mix) (Y1500) Snakeman Show in the 90's (Adrian Sherwood mix) (Y1500) Casiopea in the 90's (Taava Mote remix) (Y1500) Sandii & Sunsetz (The Bomb the Bass remix) (Y1500) Jun Togawa in the 90's (The Infinite Productions mix) (Y1500) Yukihiro Takahashi in the 90's (The David Lord remix) (Y1500) Toshinori Kondo-Ima in the 90's (Bill Laswell remix) (Y1500) Ryuichi Sakamoto in the 90's (Mark Plati remix) (Y1500) Sumo Stomp: The Ultimate in the 90's Collection (Y2,500) And then they list a couple other Japanese dance collections with names like "Happy Happy" and such. And finally, I got the new Fortran 5, Bad Head Park (finally) and really really like it. But that was probably in an XDZ review so reviewing it would be redundant. :) Brian
