I saw this tour in Toronto a few nights ago. Signer played a guitar-with-laptop kinda thing. Did some singing as well. It was good, but didn't completely wow me. Ariel Pink was a bit of a train-wreck. They set up most of their gear after Signer had finished, started what I thought was supposed to be a sound-check, but it was actually their set. Since I'm not a big fan of Animal Collective and a lot of this other outsider-electronic-psych-folk stuff, perhaps my opinion shouldn't count for much, but I really didn't dig much of their set. Although there was one bit that I liked, as it oddly reminded me of really early Cabaret Voltaire. I only stayed for the first few minutes of Greg Davis as it was getting late and I had an early morning, but it looked like he was doing a straight laptop set. Started out with some nice droney stuff. I always enjoy him live no matter what he's doing, so I wish I could've stayed. I saw Signer a few years ago with Pan American, he did some nice fuzz guitar and laptop stuff. Saw Greg Davis with his touring band a couple times earlier this year, and those were nice shows. I wouldn't call them IDM, more lap-folk? All kinds of nice instrumentation, some singing, etc... I know they're playing here Monday night. I'll probably try to go check it out. my confused thoughts during that bit led me to think early-mid 80's Chris & Cosey vs. Velvet Underground. Everytime they finished a song I clapped and yelled "you're demented!". Borderline art/insane people pounding on shit w/lots of reverb. Outsider fer sure. I thought Signer and Greg Davis were awesome - Greg doing the audience sing along-max/msp fuckery was super cool. Nice people and nice sounds... chris --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

just saw greg davis, signer and ariel pink tonight at the tonic. thought all three were pretty good, but im easy. i half fell asleep during greg davis. he did 2 quiet sound pieces that i realy enjoyed. i drank too much and had to leave to let my insides out, but then came back in to enjoy the groove of ariel pink. all in all not a bad night.
