Rachels are bad for me, fallen in love with them twice ;) You're not leering hard enough, if you were you would see I'm wearing boots :P Anyway, so I don't stray completely off-topic, I don;t think anyone replied to my Aoki Takamas post a couple of weeks ago so I'll ask again if anyone has heard his stuff and if so, what do they think about it? Personally, the 'Silicom' album is one of the best things I've ever heard... -- Dan Brusca www.vfrecordings.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

It seems as though people are choosing this here forum for really "intelligent" postings so I figure I'd add to the fray and ask if you could help Kiya and I figure out where to go to lunch. It's 11:54 PST and we are on the west coast of the United States. Somewhere in Northern California would be awesome! Thanks much for the help. Keep it real.... here's the thing. shimone failed to mention that him and i live in sf but work in san mateo (different jobs though, shimone spends his days eating computer cables, i spend my days eating toner). so we basically need someplace that's within reasonable driving distance. i mean, we could technically take a long lunch and drive six hours to los angeles to hit up cantor's deli (as rachel suggested), but that would mean we'd hit traffic on our way out of la. we don't want to do that. so someplace in san mateo county might work better. and don't tell me this is a waste of bandwidth, after the shit i've read on this list in the past week, discussing cell phone ring tones wouldn't be a waste of bandwidth.s -kiya iamacopierltd. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

San Mateo, eh? I was just reading about the San Mateo County Fair over the weekend and all the hot acts they have lined up this week. I think Abba played yesterday. The Village People might be tonight and I know Grand Funk Railroad is somewhere in there too. How about getting some BBQ at the fair and staying for the amazing music and kick ass rides! -Aaron ----- Original Message ----- From: "kiya \"i am a copier\" babzani" <denial@ix.netcom.com> Date: Wednesday, August 14, 2002 12:06 pm Subject: Re: [idm] Ideas for lunch

My wife I and Irove down to San Mateo for lunch today, specifically to go to "Annapoorna" south indian vegetarian on el camino (east side, just south of 92). It's the 2nd time in 4 days. Saw their ad in "India Currents" and had to try it ~ the only other south indian restaurants nearby are all in the east bay. They make a killer dosa. If you haven't had one, go NOW and have one!!! A dosa is a rice-flour crepe grilled golden brown and crispy like the outside of a grilled cheese sandwhich, stuffed with potato/lentil/onion filling like a samosa. IT comes with sour/hot sambar dal soup and a minty coconut dip that is just heaven. You rip off pieces like ethiopian food and dip it in the two sauces. Mmmmmmm. There are several varieties. The "masala dosa" is the default classic. A "Rava masala dosa" uses fermented rice flour which gives the batter a delish nutty savoriness ~ my current favorite! The "mysore" variety has a spicy hot tomatoe paste spread on the inside -- my other favorite. My wife tried their spring dosa today ~ it had more veggies on the inside and also had the mysore style paste. Mmmmmmm. Other things to try ~ their uthapam, haven't had it yet but they're savory rice pancakes that taste alot like potato pancakes or latkas. Mmmmmmm. Also comes with savory dipping stuff. Vada are savory chickpea flour donuts. Mmmmm. Why these things haven't taken over the US like burrito shacks I have no idea. It's got to happen, they just nail too many current US culinary desires. Starch, fat, spicey, savory. Mmm. Still excited to have found good dosas nearby, next time I try their thali (assortment plate), aaron ghede@well.com http://www.quietamerican.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

sure, la corneta is pretty good. but el faralito, just down the block at 24th + mission is arguably better. i dunno. i lived 'round the corner from there for three years and ate at one of these two places probably five times a week. and the best thai food is yamo on 18th street + mission. so there. hello rest of the world! we know you care! j On Wed, 14 Aug 2002, Dave Dunstan wrote:

There was a new one opened up last summer somtime, on 24th and Guerrero which was really good. Looked kinda fancy and upmarker but it totally wasn't. Really laid back, awesome veggie burritos and the chips were perfect. But.. come on, how can anyone mention burrito and not talk about Taqueria Cancun. /me living in London, badly missing Mission burritos and getting a heavy munchie attack reading this thread. -thor On Wed, 14 Aug 2002, Dave Dunstan wrote:

yeah, that place is called Popelotes (or something like that)... i don't really dig that place because they put big pieces of carrots in their burritos. :)

yup, cancun rocks 99% of the burritos found anywhere. lot's of it has to do with two things. they put in a handful of fresh cilantro in every burrito, and they actually grill the tortilla before they fill it so that when you get it, it's sorta crispy on the outside but chewy on the inside. i'm surpised nobody has flamed me yet for starting this discussion. -kiya --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

OK, how about then, which of these lunch places plays the best music? At "Annapoorna" they play groovy old bombay / tamil film music. At Cancun they often play norteneo oopah rock waaaay too loud. Mmm. The only place I can think of in the city of SF that plays really groovy tunes is Fritz in Hayes Valley. They play a wide-reaching range of electronic music, including IDM from time to time. ghede@well.com http://www.quietamerican.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
