I am not a big fan of Foreigner but I have to say that my fascination with Def Leppard has done nothing but intensify in recent weeks, leading me to start incorporating Mutt Lange production techniques into new material. Who needs to rip off Autechre when there are bands like Def Leppard? In all seriousness I cannot listen to "Photograph" too many times. Also in heavy rotation on my G4's iTunes: Air Supply - "Even the Nights are Better": I'm not sure but I think that "Caught Between the Moon and New York City" and this song are long lost twins separated at birth. The Seekers - "Georgie Girl" and The Mamas and The Papas - "Good Morning Starshine": I think that psychedelic hippie pop never got any better than those two cuts. Barry Manilow - "Oh Mandy": Oh holy fucking shit is more like it. This song is a tear-jerker. Barry Manilow is a God. Many people do not know he wrote the "Like A Good Neighbor State Farm Is There" song. Laibach - "The Final Countdown": Yes. It is Laibach covering Europe. Yes. It is as amazing as you think it could be. The first time I heard the choir drop in on the chorus, I felt like something broke inside of me. I will never be the same. Sheriff - "When I'm With You": With all these contemporary bands ripping off the sounds of the '80s, you know it's only a matter of time before the early 90's pre-Nirvana ballad rock starts getting touched. When that time comes, I hope somebody remembers Sheriff. Tears for Fears - "Head Over Heels": I saw Donnie Darko and this song reminded me of when pop music was my only Truth. Toto - "Africa" and "Rosanna": It is amazing to me that the same band that wrote these two songs also wrote the rest of Toto IV. What a terrible album, bookended by the two greatest songs of 1982. Toto also co-wrote and played several of the songs on Michael Jackson's "Thriller." Go check if you don't believe me. The Art of Noise - "Paranoimia", Yello - "Oh Yeah", MARRS - "Pump up the Volume", Fine Young Cannibals - "Good Thing": Every time I deejayed a school dance in college, these 12"s were played. Unknown Indian Artists - "Knight Rider Bhangra": I don't know where this song came from or why, all I know is some Hindus be loving them some Knight Rider. - JD -- -- String Theory -- http://www.enteract.com/~yoshi/index.cgi -- String Theory's Anhedonia CD/LP available at finer music stores worldwide --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

No, you're just a genius that's willing to open up to really GOOD music. Any Tony Basil and Blondie fan's out there, trembling in the darkness waiting to explode onto the IDM scene? How about scala's 1996 cover of "Heart of Glass" on BEAUTY NOWHERE? I wish scala were still around. I got into them after being a fan of Locust and Seefeel, but I think they broke up shortly after I discovered them. Anyway, that "Heart of Glass" is a favorite tune I use to try and reel potential IDM fans in, but it never works as well as I might want. Seems that uninitiated folks are more likely to get into Boards of Canada or even Autechre (BION) than Scala. Go figure. (2001 sentrall sen001) 12" http://www.kompaktkiste.de/sentrall.htm#sen001 what a fun record, brings back fond memories of youth... ciao, wolf. ----://----------------------------------------------------- mailto:wolf@kompaktkiste.de http://www.kompaktkiste.de http://www.kompaktkiste.de/shop ----://----------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
