i think the connections have always been around,
but they've been getting more pronounced, especially
as formerly underground music gets more and more
exposure due to the internet...
when top 40 radio sounds like r&b combined with autechre,
and japanese noise is "oldskool" to alot of indie kids,
being into death/grind and idm isn't such an odd thing anymore.
