Um - the Daewoo 5700 goes for $99 at Sam's. And the region coding is set to all with a remote control menu hack. If you really want Macrovision gone, you can burn a new firmware. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

In my opinion, they really blew it with this DVD. I expected a lot more from them. They had a whole dvd to fuck with, and they just put on some videos. They could have put a lot more on it, like: samples, toy sequencers, dumb games, pieces of music they never did anything. They could have filled that dvd up with crap, like them brushing their teeth, and I think a lot of us might have found it interesting. Thought the music was pretty weak on the new cd too. At least compared to Confield, which I think is the bee's knees. On Mon, 19 Aug 2002 CAPOIIEE@aol.com wrote:

Whatsmore, I figure since you've got such an enormous amount of extra space why not fill it up with all the rest of their videos and really make the thing a value? Funny though, The Minds Eye was exactly what came to mind when watching the Bass Cadet video. It's like plotless 3D stroytelling with music. You could replace the existing music with *any* music and achieve the same affect. Really, totally like The Minds Eye :) Shimone/Justes http://www.staticbeats.com | Electronic Music > Digital Culture ----- Original Message ----- From: "dj pie" <rachel@electricrain.com> To: <CAPOIIEE@aol.com> Cc: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Monday, August 19, 2002 6:26 PM Subject: Re: [idm] autechre dvd

I hadn't seen the second bad vilbel video since old amp days, and was psyched to see it again; this edit seemed a bit longer, I can definitely see that you wouldn't like it as much. I had never seen the basscadet video, wasn't super impressed but it was fun to see. However, I really really liked the new gantz graf video. A great visualization of the song, I thought. Many of my non-IDM-fan friends who don't listen to much of this music are kind of overwhelmed listening to an autechre track, especially their recent drum heavy stuff; they have trouble sorting it all out. This video is awesome in that it's essentially a visual guide to all the harmonic/melodic shit going on at once in the song and can really guide your perception of the music, bringing parts of it to cognition that you might miss (of course all us IDM wouldn't ;). For instance, right in the beginning, the gray thing is vibrating really fast, but as the nice light-BPM melody comes in, the thing starts to shift its axis of rotation nice and slow as well. Don't sell this short, most videos may be synchronized to a tempo represented in their songs, but with IDM such a video often chooses a tempo at a time out of a selection; this video is synchronized with all tempos, for the entirety of the video/song. I haven't seen too much of that. I've seen many IDM videos and was an amp watcher for years, and while plenty of videos are calibrated to the music and conveys a sense of tempo/beat, this video ranks up there with coldcut videos as great examples of pure music visualization with an appropriate aesthetic. So far, when I've wanted to listen to the song again, I throw in the DVD, not the CD; it's a more enjoyable experience for me to listen and watch. As an aside, the best live example of this I've ever seen was by Panasonic ~3 years ago at Tramps in NYC, while they were on a tour with Trans Am. Their whole performance, they projected a black square against a white background, with some sort of modulation to the music fed into the project so that the square undulated along with the tunes. It was so cool, the best video accompaniment to a show I've seen to date. The show established too high a bar for me, I've been disappointed every time I've seen Panasonic since... -squiddity ----- Original Message ----- From: "dj pie" <rachel@zot.electricrain.com> To: <CAPOIIEE@aol.com> Cc: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Monday, August 19, 2002 6:26 PM Subject: Re: [idm] autechre dvd

the unfortunate backlash of their success seems to be an expectation now that cannot possibly be fulfilled. i suppose someone in their pitiful detachment from autechre (only after probably worshipping them for years) is secretly planning to assasinate them or something. They're too big, they're shit now, they're bringing down the revolution they started! .... jesus christ. The new vid is sick, the 3 (only 3) tracks cover a more unsuspectfully broad range, 1st- almost pure gallery/installation sound (more like a live experiment) and now with an object that almost looks like the actual thing they used to make that track, represents the verge of their music, somewhere in between the club space, the gallery, the miscellaneous commercial dvd, the infinite relam and nature of objects themselves. 2nd- more new confield style (if you dontlike confield then forget it), edgy surface tensions and kinetic skin bonds stretching over an implied figure below, it moves, it mocks, its self-listening makes it more and more claustrophobic.... 3rd - movement into the breath of something huge, all encompassing, passing through the machine's personal history.... an epithetic door between states of permutation......autechre spanning themselves in order to push beyond their more solitary track of the object. its pretty damn cool. i love having the 3 vids, and i am not concerned there may be nothing to hack on the dvd in order to feel it being worthwhile. b.just another annoying autechre fan --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
