Well, that's absolutely not what Dada was about. Dada was really all about statements and messages and all that. Andrei

Ok, if we don't want to play nice... One cannot consider the work of the Dadaists without considering the evolution of the artistic gesture. So you're telling me that the non-scence plays and books written by the many, many followers of the movement meant nothing in comparison to the insanity they had been forced to live in the war years? Could one think of the Merzbau and not realize the statements and gestures built into the day to day realities of the environment? Could one not see the defiant gestures involved in presenting redymades and collages (in comparison to the academy and all it represented at the time)? That the words and acts themselves are obstruse does not mean that they are indeed meaningless. " DADA is art with neither slippers nor parallels; it is against and for unity and is decidedly against the future." Tristan Tzara Sounds like a statement to me... Donna S PS:Two times in one day this list has proved it's worth!!! Hurray!!

That sentence, you know, is completely illogical. No sense. Nonsense. That doesn't mean it doesn't mean anything. Which is to say that it means nothing at all. Which is fine by me :) _________________________________________ Christopher Sorg Multimedia Artist and Instructor The School of the Art Institute of Chicago http://csorg.cjb.net csorg@artic.edu --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
