What the heck. I vote for Samuel Morse -- the accomplished painter who, as an innovator of the telegraph and the dot-dash-dot code that bears his name, is also probably one of the first glitch musicians. Marc At 01:07 PM 7/10/01 -0600, you wrote:

Bridget Riley is the most IDM artist, if I had to pick just one. Op Art all the way! How about Jackson Pollock, Willem de Koonig, Robert Rauschenberg? Wassily Kandinsky and every Russian Constructivist and Italian Futurist? Architecture is the most IDM art form. Zaha Hadid, Santiago Calatrava (whom Autechre name-dropped in an interview some time ago), Coop Himmelblau, Morphosis, blah blah &c. Tim Noble and Sue Webster.....They make sculptures out of Garbage that at first glance look like nothing until they shine a light at the right angle on thee sculpture.....then once the shadow if projected on the wall you see what their sculpture is....faces...people on mountains....numerous things. Anyone see their exhibit with Chris Cunninghams Apocalypse exhibit at the Royal Accademy? Pretty cool I thought. i agree with this. really dislike dali, as a person and as an artist. of the surrealist painters (the genre is pretty cheesed out IMO), magritte is probably the best. but i'm not sure what makes surrealism "idm" anyway. i guess you could argue that dali is kind of like future sound of london... lots of gratuitous special effects and "wierd objects" grouped together. if you want to start with the early techno or minimal and highly "electronic" sounds, i'd have to go with minimalism. like, donald judd, dan flavin, frank stella, ellsworth kelly, and james turrel... are techno. warhol is aphex: a media manipulator and a godfather to the contemporary scene. mies is autechre: intentionally mechanical and imitated by everyone. j __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? naw...The IDMest painter\artist would have to go to JEGA. He does all of his cover work. I spoke to him in orlando a couple months ago in he mentioned that he does all his cover work and that once his music career diminishes (which I don't see happening for quite a while) that he will pursue a career in computer graphics. On the Jega note, he performed new material at a theater right after DJ Qberts Wave twister film and at my local record shop, Park Avenue Records. I found the new tracks to be interesting. He combines the IDM feel with more traditional dance music...lots of hip hop samples..etc.. Don't be scared, you won't be disappointed. I just can't wait until he releases it! mr hExx
