#1 - Please please tell me what rap music youre listening to hahhah #2 - You seem to know an awful lot about rap to assume it all samples 70s classic rock, lol. You find rap is an outlet for rage? You dont know a single thing about it... how you can you possibly categorize it? Pop music is for gay people, classical music is for old people, heavy metal is for violent people, only rich people listen to jazz. What do black males have to do with it, are you racist or somethin? people are people. To call an entire genre like hip-hop on a list that wouldnt exist without it is pure stupidity. If you saw things from the perspective of those who enjoy it and those who make it you would be ashamed of your snide and rather ignorant comments about it. Music is Art. Just because Aphex Twin is a shitty electronic musician doesnt mean the rest now and in the future cannot make a positive impact on the world - or whatever the fuck you were trying to dis any music that has raps ian --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I'm sure if I enjoyed the music, then I WOULD have found those comments 'snide and rather ignorant'. But guess what? I DON'T like rap therefore I find them to be true. As you may have missed, I added in the line "That's just my two cents" meaning that it's my PERSONAL opinion take it or leave it. I never expected so many people actually waste their time listening to Snoop Doggy Fucking Dog and DMX (not Krew). Yeah... that's rap. If you're saying Eminem is more talented than artists like Phonem, µ-ziq, Richard James, etc. etc. than you have to be smokin' some mighty fine crack. BTW, I listen to Marumari quite a bit and if you classify that as rap, I'd LOVE to have a look at your musical dictionary. - Dan J. ----- Original Message ----- From: "ian" <ipojman@jmlafferty.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Sunday, July 01, 2001 7:39 PM Subject: Re: [idm] Aphex Twin - Drukqs

Personal opinion or not, writing off a whole genre is bound to get you flamed on this list. And disliking rap because it is (here i go paraphrasing) a bunch of young afro-american males talking about how hard-done-by they are is pretty... well, ignorant. Would you rather they grabbed an acoustic guitar and wrote some nice folky tunes? Or would you like to hear them sing about how everything's just fine, and not complain about the economic plight facing millions of people of all colours around the world? Shit, next thing you know, you'll be dismissing "rock" music because its all about a bunch of guys and girls trying to get laid.... on an idm-note, i really like Tipper's older stuff on Fuel... Sound Off is great too.... j-a- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Content aside, I have to say, Eminem's ability to rhyme and string words together is quite impressive. I am quite skeptical when it comes to music with a lot of dick-swaggering attitude behind it, but a friend of mine had me sit down and actually listen objectively to the way this guy puts words together and I feel the guy really is quite talented. Reminds me of Bob Dylan. Again though, I am side-stepping content and just looking at word choice and placement. As far as Phonem goes though... ...heh, I really don't think I even have the ability to compare the two. Something I am curious about though, how do you feel about Funkstroung's remix of the Wu-Tang track on additional productions? That's got quite a bit of the hard edged rap feel to it, but yet it is also has a lot of IDMy tweaks to it. Personally I think it is a great fusion of the two. I only mention this because that is what first got me interested in the melding of the two genres, and now I can't get enough of it. -c --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
