A series of 6 10" records...right? I should have 'em tomorrow (mailperson tried to deliver them Friday, but no one was home, so I have to go to the PO and pick them up). Glad to hear they are good. More info is available at dirtyloop.com . I ordered the set based on the strength of Boom Bip and Doseone's _Circle_ CD which I found to be just terrific. Surprisingly diverse for being just one MC and Producer. If you've not gotten it yet Chris, I'd recommend you do so. [Glad you used "intelligent" in the subject heading. Them Lucky Kitchen chaps seem to think that all hip hop is baby food and excessive listening will turn your head to mush. Sigh... Plan on sending them an MD of this stuff to perhaps help them to rethink their opinion.] JJTar. --- Peace Hugs and Unity Jason J. Tar W. W. J. D? (What would Jason Do?) cLOUDEAD is currently a series of 6 10" featuring odd nosdam (production) dose one (vocals), and why? (vocals). Each one features a different guest (appearances are made by the likes of Mr. Dibbs, Sole, and Illogic). they're being released one at a time monthly, although as was mentioned earlier, you may buy them all direct from mush (www.dirtyloop.com). No liner notes (or even song titles), but very interesting artwork. Mush plans on releasing them in 2x12" and cd formats (I assume once all 6 10"s have been released individually). My personal favorite is volume 3, which I believe is out now on its own. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

All 6 are available, but you can currently only get 3-6 from Dirty Loop. 1-2 are distributed normally, and the remainders will be made available seperately on a very limited basis. Mush is not releasing the 2x12" and CD. Apparently they are going to be licensced by Ninja Tune/Big Dada, and then it'll finally get the respect it deserves. Colin. actually i got nothing against anticon ... i have a couple of their albums and i think they're okay ... i fully agree with their sentiment that hip-hop needs to be pushed in new directions and i appreciate their efforts to do so. dose one's solo joint is quite remarkable, but aside from that i think they are pretty overrated. as far as pushing boundaries of hip-hop, i seriously think company flow pushes alot harder than anticon. and the linda tripp track is just so goddamn RUTHLESS. i definitely agree that to call them "the best thing going in hip-hop" is reaching, but it is (as we have to reiterate so often on this list) a subjective matter. i want to be down. josh -- String Theory : Digital Music for Humans http://www.enteract.com/~yoshi/index.cgi On Mon, 29 Jan 2001, zachary mastoon wrote:

Actually, I'd rather you didn't leave it at that. Please post the three paragraphs of angry rants, because your succinct route is quite useless in adding to conversation. In response to bullshit all I can say is "fine, that's your opinion", and nothing has changed. Josh Davison <yoshi@enteract.com>:

I thought it would have been hilarious if Sole turned around and sued El-P. So, is the cLOUDDEAD cd out yet in the US or what ? I was really looking forward to picking this up yesterday and none of the stores here in Harvard Sq.| Cambridge, MA, including OM, had it (or even had much of a, if any, clue of what I was talking about, "Clouddead !? How do you spell that ?"). I noticed this on the Ninja Tune site: "cLOUDDEAD are coming out on Mush in the USA and on Big Dada everywhere else." So I guess this means they're gonna have shitty distribution in the US ? I noticed sites like Tower, Amazon or CDNOW don't even have the album in their databases yet. Hello. Anyone else picked up the Clouddead album? Definitely one of the best things I've heard this year. Take the lyrical stylings of Cypress Hill, a spacey slow-motion makeover of Gescom's hip-hop sound, the melancholic ambience of pre-"Kid A" Radiohead, the classical mangling of Gas, plus lots of dubby white noise, clicks and scratches -- and, well, that's it in a nutshell really. They're on Big Dada, a Ninjatune off-shoot label. Here's the blurb from Ninjatune's web site: ======== Welcome to the world of cLOUDDEAD. In late 2000 a series of very strange 10 inch singles began to trickle out across the USA. With grainy photos for covers combined with odd, constantly changing pieces of music slathered in hiss, pop and distortion and combined with other-worldly 'rapping' this was some sort of hip hop, but not exactly as anyone had heard it before. These were the kind of records you sort of had to fall into, give yourself time to adjust to, get used to the sheer newness of. The vinyl was in such limited supply that the records quickly sold out, the occasional copy turning up in shops in Australia, Japan and London. There wasn't so much a buzz as a whisper - just the faintest hint that something special was going on. Jump on to May 2001 and now everyone has a chance to hear what the original fuss was about. cLOUDDEAD are Doseone, why? and Odd Nosdam and their debut album is a collection of the 6 groundbreaking singles they released last year. Almost impossible to describe accurately, the records have had them tagged as a US Beta Band, Syd Barrett with a sampler, even Bone Thugs 'N Harmony on magic mushrooms. The fact of the matter is they don't sound a whole lot like any of these. They just sound different. And if you like difference, you're in for a treat. And if you don't? Well, then we can only suggest you get off now... ======== Well worth picking up if you want something "a bit different". -- Mark Stevens http://www.headspin.clara.net/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I'll second the recommendation for this album. It's not really hip-hop as such, but pretty good. Everyone seems to be trying to draw comparisons with other artists, but for some reason they really remind me of this old 60s band called The Fugs. I'm not sure why - they just seem to have the same approach to music. If the Fugs had samplers I reckon they'd sound like cLOUDDEAD. The Avalanches album is really good as well. I'm going to keep it to hand next time I'm at a party and try and get it on the stereo. The new Mouse on Mars is completely fucked. I mean that as a compliment. I don't think I'll be playing it at any parties though, unless I don't like the party and I'm looking to get myself thrown out. Dan. bought the self-titled cLOUDDEAD cd today. for some reason i've been wanting to check it out lately. anyway, i'm glad i only paid $12.49 for it, as it's nothing special. the productiuon isn't bad, i mean it's nothing special, but the unoriginal rhyme styles is what i can't stand. i should've known better as they are affiliated with anti-con, who are hyped much, but don't live up to it. don __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
