Duh- because it's different live. Not with all artists, perhaps not even
with most artists. But of the one time I've seen Autechre and of the live
recordings I have, the songs they play live that I actually recognize from
being from one of their albums makes up about 20% of the performance. Same
can be said for Funkstorung and Kid 606 and Phthalocyanine and Phoenecia.
I suppose that if you're expecting some kind of show or spectacle then
watching Alex Graham sit indian style on the floor in front of his laptop
for 45 minutes would be boring. I don't mind it because I go primarily for
the music. But I think one of the best things to come out of performances
like this is the proliferation of video projectionists or the "video dj."
Not that video presentations are such a new thing (the whole 60's
psychedelia thing?), but I think that's a welcome element to the mix.
