It's called SMAK. All they've released so far is a rather limited CD by an artist called Posthuman. Is this the same Post-Human that I saw perform before Marumari at Rough Trade in Soho the day of the Warp party? that's the point. now skam has good distribution and good promotion, since everyone knows about them and wants their stuff. this is probably that way of becoming a "mysterious and unpredictable label" again. bleah /derek --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Tell me about it. I haven't seen the CD anywhere. I managed to get good quality MP3s from a friend and it's pretty good stuff. Should I see the disc anywhere, I'd definately snap it up. And no, I can't share the MP3s as I already recorded them to MiniDisc and deleted the files to clear up some disc space. Sorry. Just a general MP3 related question: a lot of MP3's I'm listening to are distorted, either at the top end which clips, or the bass which just goes "bbsshhh" - and looking at the actual curve, it makes standing squared waves. Presumably this is not due to the extraction, but comes from the original source - is it because people use huge compression on their sound files? Is there any way around it? Even if I convert my own CD's to MP3, I cannot predict which ones will come out distorted (and many do). Selecting the "normalize" function does not seem to help - sometimes it even boots the gain. Smak has so far released nothing. The CD you are talking of is Posthumans self released CDR demo. Smallfish (www.smallfish.co.uk) in London had copies in this morning when I was there. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Really? Strange, the source I got the MP3s from referred to it as SMAK01. So perhaps the first SMAK release will be a full edition of this release, or a version thereof? Hmmmm.

Ah, cool. Nice to know it's somewhat available. I'll have to see if I can get my hands on one.
