Danny breaks + Middleton = Use of Weapons, a project that's so far only seen releases on Droppin' Science TS is MLO from Rising High IIRC. ha ha. . .that made no sense :) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

So I was in Borders over the weekend, and they were having half off all vinyl. Their section was getting to be slim pickings (the store in Fort Worth - Ernesto! quickly! to the IDMmobile!) - lotsa DHR (gack), lotsa obscure punk and weird other stuff, but I managed to find a few cool things (Cylob's Latest Effort for $5, a Chessie 7" on Drop Beat for $2). Haven't listened to it all yet, but Twisted Science - that involves Danny Breaks and Tom Middleton, yeah? Or is that a Panacea related thing? They had a Panacea record, but I had to put it back for lack of money. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I didn't understand that at all. :) But I think Twisted Science is almost exclusively John Tye, the owner/manager of Lo Records. He has also recorded as Echo Park. "Smith/Biswas/Vibert", and "Grundahl" are also credited for some tracks on "The Sharpest Tool in the Box". Vibert!? So who and what is MLO? It's also credited here. I think that's right. There's a few cool releases on Lo, but they're very scarce indeed unfortunately - stuff like the Aphex Twin meets Mike Flowers Pops and all the collaborations CDs (not that I've heard these, but I like the idea of them!)

Yes that is Vibert as in Luke, and 'Biswas' is Bedouin Ascent - I think they did collaborate a bit on Lo Records for stuff like Slack Dog etc. Haven't heard of "The Sharpest Tool in the Box" though - is that a Twisted Science release?

MLO is John Tye plus someone else (can't remember the name) and they recorded on Rising High. Anyone know when the new Jega album is coming out? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

of them!) The only one I've heard is "Root" (1998?) with a bunch of artists remixing one-minute Thurston Moore tracks. Most of the 25 tracks seem like uninspired noise to me, but there are a few good ones, and lots of artists I never would have heard of otherwise. The sleeve notes feature the email correspondence between Tye and Moore, presumably the letters that led up to the release. Interesting, and fun.

Yes, from 1998. I had always assumed it was the most famous, since it was the one I heard about first -- and in the Sunday Times, no less! It's a very, very harsh record, consisting mostly of brutally distorted uptempo techno loops. Lean and mean, but also one of the most exuberant records I've ever heard. Come to think of it, it would have been a perfect soundtrack for "Fight Club"! As I recall, the reviewer in the Times was particularly impressed with the first track, "No Morning Entries," which he likened to a child's music box spinning out of control into some sort of nightmare. To me, it sounds more like enormous chunks of metal being deformed by a strong magnetic field. Either way, it's impressive. Oh, and there's a brilliant bit at the end of the third track, "Son of Sam", where a train-whistle sound, heavily distorted in keeping with rest of the record, blasts into the middle of a techno track, then loops and fades away as the techno wreaks havoc all over it. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
