SMH Review 12/5/2000 of Thug's Isolated Rhythm Chock CD Thug Isolated Rhythm Chock (Aural Industries) 4 out of 5 stars "While much of our electronic product assumes kudos from frigid, obscure sounds and carcinogenic beats, this offering is gaga over soaring melodies and heated repetition. Never does Isolated Rhythm Chock get piggy with your attention, more subtly imbibing your body with its frequent symphonic murmur. It's saucy, swaying electronica like this that holds its own because of the modesty and coy sensibilities it employs. The momentum of the album is all over the shop, but this serves to up the surprise ante. Just when strings are moaning hard, your audio rug is pulled from under you and there's rapid-fire bass squelching or hard-stepping to contend with. Some of Thug's music is sad (Dolphin) - while melodies moan beats crawl to a delicious depressing halt. But there's a lot of bouncing around to be had on most of the tracks, even if it is high-end tech or repeated machinations that seem to inhabit a space between two points in time (Obatem). Sound utterly pretentious? On paper, yeah. But listen and it all makes sense. This debut from the 24-year-old Adelaide musician Tim Koch, is nervy and brave. His adoption of the electronic form has paid off. Almost top shelf." AT Regards, John Aural Industries Pty Ltd http://www.aural-industries.com.au P.S. It can be bought Stateside from S://kimo Music <http://www.skimo.com/> and in the UK from Hedonizm Records <mark@hedonizm.demon.co.uk>. I think it's time for another record, John. You've been promoting this one for over a year now..... :) I had this one locked in my car CD player all last summer.... Yeah that's true!! Guess what??... There are 3 releases all planned to come out in the next 2 or so months on AI or Selectronic (AI's cdr label). Though it's looking like they'll come out on AI proper. Also one other point i'd like to make.. despite sending over 80 promos this is the first time i've seen the CD reviewed in print!! It only took a year for it to get one print review! :( Oh yeah I know about the Rob Geary mention in Grooves, but that was far from a review. Anyhow if you liked IRC you'll absolutely love the new stuff... here's some info on the next 2 releases... Artist: Tim Koch (Thug) Title: Please Don't Tell Me That's Your Volvo Label: Aural Industries Cat. No. ai002 In essence a compilation of sonic off-cuts that didn't seem to fit anywhere else nicely. Aural Industries has taken the time to re-arrange them into a shape and form that we hope you will find most agreeable. Video game inspired songs about giving up mathematics, people with bad haircuts who don't answer their phones, bad sudafed trips, and American skateboarding shoes that fail to withstand the sheer force of Tim's ollies. Described by Groove Magazines' Pietro Da Sacco as containing "17 tracks of video-game styled electronica tied to bright melodies, gritty ambience, and snappy bleeps all wrapped up in a tight 65 minutes. Fans of Lackluster, Plod, Arovane and even Plaid will enjoy this release. But keep in mind that these sounds would best fit a Nintendo or Playstation soundtrack". Track-listing: 01.werdan 02.boybie socks 03.rzswing 04.sudafed x2 05.lull 06.my_document 07.tsunami bros. II (Barry Handler mix) 08.the generalist 09.meat lovers interlude 10.binoce 11.themaxa 12.obatem by night 13.forgive me for wanting to forget you 14.nightmare seam 15.hello pan air 16.i split my etnies 17.tsunami bros. I Artist: DJ Fish Finger Title: Gone Fishin' Label: Aural Industries Cat. No. cdai003 DJ Fish Finger spent the better part of the mid to late 80's pimping on the old C64 / Amiga Scene BBS' and watching the Playboy channel when it was cool too. Years of research were undertaken to enable the engineers at the DJ FF research facility to construct a studio that was able to be filled with water, fish and various other sea creatures, to allow DJ Fish Finger to record in his natural habitat. His upcoming release titled "Gone Fishin'" is best described as electro, crazed beats, porno soundtrack music and C64/Amiga computer game sounds all amalgamated into a very phunkee aural soundtrack for the game of life... computers, sex and good music; what else do you need!? Described by a local Sydney DJ as an amazing cross between the sounds of Mr Scruff meets Cylob meets Ed DMX. So kick back, throw a dolphin meatball on the barbie, and let the sounds of DJ Fish Finger flow. Track-listing: 01.Dad's Organ 12.Star-80 Interlude 02.Sidosaurus 13.Tiffany's Tuna Farm 03.Casiozilla Ate My Homework 14.All Good Fish Come to an End 04.Track 4 15.Take a Dump I 05.One of the Few 16.Take a Dump II 06.Herbie's Harmpits 17.Fluff Dan 07.Sumishi Bits 18.Nuthing 08.Rztrip 19.Choose Your Opponent 09.Fishing Without Conviction 20.Rzdnb 10.Impossible Fish Mission 21.Catfish 11.Squid Sid Followed in July by the stunning new Thug album!!
