i picked up a twelve by coleman (animals on wheels) on thrill jockey recently. it's very good, and it's really left me thirsty for the new AOW later this year. a question: was this only released on thrill jockey? it doesn't have any other labels listed anywhere that i can find. did i just answer my own question? -jeff -------------- 1642 try 621 --------------

You're right to look forward to the AOW record, it's damn good.

Yeah, i think so. The press release I got with the AOW album refers to this 12" under his own name as being released only on Thrill Jockey. Greg

I also picked up the andrew coleman 12" on thrill jockey earlier this year and really enjoy it. a nice mellow electonica release with a nice, almost indie rock feel that kinda reminded me of a light kranky-labradford-pan am-remote viewer sound. I have yet to hear any of the Animal on Wheels releases. Do they sound anything like this ep? If so i'll have to pick them up asap. -->-Lance--- lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

Earlier AOW is more on the drill'n'bass side of things. Not horrible, but not great. But the upcoming album on Ninja Tune, "Nuvol Icadira", is something else entirely - solid IDM/electronica with some indie/post-rock influence and some great quirky melodies. I think it'll be right up your alley, Lance. It's due out on Nov 9th. Greg

it even looks like an indie rock record. . .

well, yes and no. the same sense of strange melody is there in the AOW stuff that i have, but it's more drill and bassish and in your face for the most part. the thrill jockey is much more reduced and chill. if you don't mind the conceits of drill and bass (which i don't, and i think AOW does it really well in the first place) then you might check it out. actually, having heard both is what's making me so excited about the new lp, because he's gone new and interesting places that the first doesn't totally reflect. -------------- 1642 try 621 --------------

'designs & mistakes' is some very clever drill n bass, full of nice piano samples & frantic beats just as good & effective as anything rdj may have done in that field. i have it up for trade if you want it. :) not that it's bad (there's some brilliant tracks, & on the whole it's better than say bogdan), but i haven't listened to it in ages. however, the track on 'zentonedada', as well as some 12" i saw on his bovinyl label, did such a good job of disappointing me that i lost all faith in andrew coleman's projects. ~ david
