Thanks to everyone who pitched in on answering my question about Reich's "Come Out." A valuable reminder that just when you think you've heard everything under the sun (on your most jaded days)... you find out how wrong you are. Along those lines, Sasha Frere-Jones (of Ui and Bingo records, responsible for the new Derek Bailey collaborative project) has a great article on Reich up at CDNow, of all places. I don't have the URL handy, but search on "Reich" (on the classical side) and look for the link to essays. A few people had asked for a track list for the Reich Remixed, but I haven't seen one yet. So here goes: Coldcut, Music for 18 Musicians Howie B, Eight Lines Andrea Parker, The Four Sections Tranquility Bass, Megamix Mantronik, Drumming DJ Takemura, Proverb D*Note, Piano Phase DJ Spooky, City Life Ken Ishii, Come Out Who exactly is Tranqility Bass? I'd always chalked them up as kinda lame-o hippy trip hop, but I'm really impressed with the mix here. And their remix for indie band Low's "Over the Ocean" was blissful. Standouts are Andrea Parker, Tranquility Bass, DJ Takemura (who the heck is this?) and Howie B, of all people. Again, I can't say enough how much I like this album. Apparently it's going to be available both on cd and vinyl--the Nonesuch rep told me it was their first vinyl release in years. phil

Currently just Mike Kandel. Back in the day when the seminal triphop classics "They Came in Peace" and the oter one whose name I can't recall just now, there was another guy involved, name of Chasteen. Chasteen's now back as Skull Valley Dub. All their stuff was originally released on the seminal "Exist Dance" label, which apparently has come back, too. I believe DJ Takemura is Japanese producer/remixer extrodinaire Nobukazu Takemura who also records as Child's View. There are four Child's View albums, all of which are excellent excursions in jazzy down- tempo electronica. The self-titled first album came out back in '94 on the Bellissima label. Then there was a remix release of the first album that featured such mixers as Mad Professor, Roni Size, Coldcut, Luke Vibert, and Aphex Twin to name a few. I believe that one came out on the Tokuma label. The third Child's View album was a japanese-only release in mid '98 called Child and Magic. But earlier this month the US Bubblecore released the newest and best Child's View album called Funfair. This one has a nice experimental/triphop/postrock edge to it. I highly recommend picking this one up. -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

yeah, that new child's view on bubblecore is pretty interesting. it's got some to rococo rot-ish (sp?) moments, some weird sample collage moments, and some really off the wall ambient bits. yay. ............ . . . . . . . . . Brian Rachielles
