I have no more details than this rough list....more to come... We's 2nd release is due this April on Asphodel. This tour should hype some of their new stuff. Any Europeans catching these gigs let us ( idm ) know. = ) 2 cents on late threads- Where are the MASK artists/label folks to add to the commentary? As I know that idm is about 900 people, with about 10-15 regular posters, all this blab seems like preaching to the converted. Whether you like them personally *or* artistically, I think it's great that vvm would comment on subjects like these ( yeah, for those who care, they're friends....) but it takes a certain dignity to jump in the ring considering the polarity of this issue. or we could just go back to talking about high school style personal grudge matches... what's the average *age* on this list anyways? Peter

in the last few days among all the mask posts there has been a lot of discussion about music. People asking about ninja tune artists, tls, matmos etc.. There were even some good reviews of lexanculpit (and one childish one). So I am not sure why people were upset about the mask thread (which I contributed three posts to). At least people were talking and discussing. Better than the one liner bs or insulting someone because they liked house ;) oh yeah, I am 27 years old and feeling it. idm content: anyone besides me been checking out the instrumental releases on tone casualties? I have stumbled across a few dark experimental idmish cds which were quite good. Also, finally got farmers manual - fsck. Better than explorers we but not as good as no backup. and my list for 98: album(s) of the year 1. autechre lp5 2. urban tribe - collapse of modern culture 3. two lone swordsman - stay down single of the year: 1. matmos - the west techno album of the year: 1. concept 1 96:CD Variations by Thomas Brinkman drum and bass album: 1. sum: 1 label of the year (for being consistently good) 1. fat cat artist of the year (for being consistently good) 1. Jan St. Werner the one to watch: burning rome -daniel

if everyone wants to email me privately their age and location, i can try to figure out some sort of demographic information to post back.. this way we dont have to see a ton of messages of folks posting their age. now, this would be interesting to see included with the poll next time.. so we get an idea of who voted :) chris.

Speaking of which, only one person has commented on (missing) the Amon Tobin show in NYC. Did anyone make it? Did anyone make it to Weatherall and Tenniswood? Newer IDM: After first listens, "Connecting Electronix Networks" and Mit Ohne Sound are pretty impressive. Until last night, it seemed to me that crunchy/melodic IDM (what someone called in early '98 "the Skam sound/last year's sound) seemed to have gone as far as it could go. The one side of "I'm So Bored with the USA" that I listened to is also damn impressive. Hopefully this portends a newer crop of artists around the corner ready to do whatever it was that Skam did in '97, minus the etc. --Danny (nee Daniel, turned 23 about two weeks ago).
