now that the poll is over, i'd like to publicly view my opinions on categories etc: yes, out with the 'genre' categories, they're a bitch to define. instead i'd like a 'non-IDM' category, please. and another category i find missing is remix-album of the year. the remix-album: not quite an artist album, not quite a compilation, but partaking the nature of both. this year i'd vote for ryuichi sakamoto: prayer / salvation (ninja tune) {brilliant!} but there were others: pizzicato five: happy end of you {brilliant in spots} telex: i don't like music {a bit cheeky but very good} skinny puppy: remix dystemper {this one was pretty blah, though} ... this would be the next year, then... <IDM Album of the Year> (Three equal votes for '99 releases) <non-IDM album of the year> (Three equal votes for '99 releases) <IDM Single/EP of the Year> (Three equal votes for '99 releases) <Remix-album of the year> (Vote for remix-album released in '99) <Compilation of the Year> (Vote for compilation released in '99) <IDM Label of the Year> (For consistent quality in '99) <IDM Artist of the Year> (For consistent quality in '99) or not, you think? hs ______________________________________________________ our future has never been so frightening: http://www.warprecords.com/warp/ography/single/WAP105/

i do enjoy a great deal of "non"-idm music, but what's the sense of voting for them on an "idm" list? also, along the lines of defining genres, who's to say what isn't idm? * #### a disturbance in a system. #### laerm. @voicenet.com ##:# i don't speak in anger/though the chances that i've let pass me by and now regret/i can't forget/they're haunting me like a score of unpaid debts icq: 5562209

I think if it is exceptional electronic music it doesn't really matter. Some people might classify alot of Carl Craig's work as just "Detroit" but alot of his work is pretty IDMish to me. I thought it was pretty pathetic that Fatboy Slim was in the Best of house/techno category. Come on there were way BETTER releases than that this year. I thought the choices for best jungle release was pretty weak also. Jega...it's not really drum n bass. And if it were considered that, it would definitely be at the bottom of any drum n bass list. _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? And the worst of all: The nominees were those guys who were mentioned by most "phase one participants" --- fellow listmembers, that is... @_@; (Okay, guys, confess: who'd let that happen?!?) -- Kurt B.
