Just picked up "The Clifford Gilberto Rythm Collection". Yeah and I'm going to piss people on IDM off by saying that this album does it for me everywhere that Music Is Rotted did not. Definitely jazzy with inserted breaks, Gilberto balances between good sampling and being progressive (vs. endless loops). Anybody else as happy about this album (which I got DOMESTIC for $15!!!)...? When you're in the rekkid sto' give it a listen. My favorite track is "I was young and needed the money" (13). But how could you not like "Ridiculo"(14). I couldn't enjoy a lot of the tracks on this because it so derivative of 'feed me wierd things'-era Squarepusher. Haven't got access to it at the moment but track 2 or 3 is a complete copy of 'squarepushers theme'. They probably haven't but it sounds like they've sat down and tried their damndest to copy it. They done a pretty a pretty good job but the bloody track already exists! Can see why Tom Jenkinson has changed direction to avoid being associated with the copiests (probably why My Bloody Valentine quitted after 'Loveless' to avoid being associated with Chapterhouse, Slowdive and the other crappy shoegazer bands). For me the best tracks on the album are those that stray into mutant lounge/jazz territory and away from pure 'Pusher copies. Nick

Wow thanx for pointing that out...and we thought thought Cliffy just sat down and got busy with some Weather Report..keep forgetting that Squarepusher was a 70s jazz legend who picked up the first fretless bass...he looks so good for his age...(this is indeed sarcasm with a smile folks!) -the ninja peanut gallery Ninja Phil Mc Mentos "the phreshmaker"
