Jimi has been releasing stuff since the early 80's as far as I know, part of it really experimental industrial before he got to his current Barry White/easy listening groove :) I've been trying to collect a discog of Jimi's earlier stuff, with not much success so far, but I'll keep on asking, and will let you know, when something gets ready :) I know there's at least one album called "Fear of Black Jesus" on Finnish label Bad Vugum (with nifty 3-D glasses!) he recorded as Jimi Tenor and His Shamans, also some jazz project with people from Rinneradio. Try checking these URLs for starters: http://compart.fi/~badvugum/jtenor.html http://www.sjoki.uta.fi/~latvis/yhtyeet/rinne.html OnNow: Jimi Tenor - Fantom ERkki everybody's talkin' trerra@uta.fi

I saw this guy live on Saturday night at Pure in the Barrowlands, Glasgow, and he was superb. Pure is a house/techno event, and he didn't really fit in, but everyone who was in the chill-out room seemed to love it. He had slicked-down, side-parted blond hair, big Joe 90 glasses, a spangly black suit and he looked geeky. He set up his keyboards and started them off, then played sax over one tune. His next was a disco number with the lyric "it's a disco feeling...from outer space". A lot of the set was just laidback jazzy stuff. It wasn't house, nor was it techno. I'd realised reading this list that he was a bit special, and I even missed Carl Craig to see him (but that was through ignorance rather than choice - no running times). But now the music for those after-club parties is sorted. His album is definitely to be bought, especially if you thought that Jake Slazenger wasn't cheesy enough. What a character. Rob.

A lot of records roll into the Ninja office, but perhaps one of the finest in a long time is the advance of the new Jimi Tenor record ('Intervision") we got last week. 'Outter Space' almost brings me to tears (that sax line!), and that superfly vocal on "Downtown". Everybody should buy this record when it comes out. Warp's really got it going on these days. A small correction: as someone on this list may already know, Jimi Tenor has been doing music already since the mid-80's (with his industrial band The Shamans); he only took his present easy listening (Jimi hates this moniker) guise about '93-'94. I guess time just wasn't right for the kind of music he churns out. Btw, I'm translating from Finnish an extensive interview on Jimi, which should shed more light on his earlier phases, along with some juicy pics (e.g. from his short film 'Urinator'). If someone insists checking those out already (and a little Finnish lesson won't hurt anyone ;), point your browsers to http://www.sci.fi/~phinnweb/jt_like.html - and of course, don't forget http://www.sci.fi/~phinnweb/tenor.html (phew, I'm starting to feel more like Gonzi day by day ;) ...

Man, please don't start this shit. You have posted only twice and already you have complained about labels not giving you the respect that you beleive that you deserve, owing Warp more recordings and now this. Among phlangephace' s unimaginitive attempt at stupid humor(or was it supposed to be dadaist humor?) and your complaints, I am ready to give up on this list. Where is the intelligent content? Can we at least have constructive content? What if we had a thread about something other than the records themselves so that egocentric artists might feel challenged to contribute something other than this nonsense? There could be more musical criticism on this list or maybe even discussion of programming tracks or synths. Nothing too AH, just discussions about the creation or structure of idm. I am sure that there are list members who are glad to see you back for some kind of idol worship reason but IO am not as easily impressed. If you are going to hang out on idm, please be constructive. You don't even have to be optimistic but just take this stuff somewhere else. steve

A good creation- / production- oriented mailing list that you may want to try is: movable-parts@student.adelaide.edu.au It has a high signal to noise ratio and the discussion occasionally wanders into the territory that you're interested in. Here's the blurb... ----- The moveable parts mailing-list is dedicated to the discussion of electronic dance music production and all related topics, such as patch programming, drum-machine programming, production tips, discussing already-released music in a technical sense, 'trade secrets', getting records mastered and pressed and whatever else you feel is relevant to the topic. If you haven't already subscribed and you want to, just send a message to: majordomo@student.adelaide.edu.au with the message in the body of text: subscribe movable-parts and you'll be subscribed as soon as the server gets around to it.. ----- Some good links for midi and so on. I just picked up Jimi Tenor "Intervision" and I love it. Does he have anything out besides the Warp singles and that one album? I also know he appeared some track from someone or another (yes, I know this helps). I saw it in a store with a neat little sticker on it. -- Via DLG Pro v1.0 - Edwin Wong (edwin_wong@kiwi.com) - Toronto, Ontario, Canada ------------- UnOfficial Nothing Records Richard D. Since there seems to be interest in Jimi Tenor/Sähkö/Puu/Panasonic, here are the unofficial (and so far the most complete, except for the Real Audio, which is in plans) online resources on them. http://www.sci.fi/~phinnweb/tenor/ http://www.sci.fi/~phinnweb/sahko/ http://www.sci.fi/~phinnweb/sahko/puu.html http://www.sci.fi/~phinnweb/panasonic/ your shameless self-promotion pHinn the maintainer of pHinnWeb - the old skool, the nu skool and the pHuture skool of Finnish electronic music trerra@uta.fi | http://www.uta.fi/~trerra | http://www.sci.fi/~phinnweb

I know this is somewhat unrelated but since this guy's with Warp, I thought I'd ask anyway. Is Jimi Tenor's stuff (iervision) going to find its way over here in the US - that is, domestically?

Supposedly Sire Records (yes- the old home of Madonna) is going to be putting out a new one from Jimi Tenor (as well as finally getting the Locust 'Morning Light' album out over here too) in the fall...
