OK, I gave "Chiastic Slide" a more concentrated study and found, to my combined delight and embarassment (having just asked if they existed), that this album does in fact have track titles. Now, let me see if I can spell them correctly: Cipater, Rettic AC, Tewe, Cichli, Hub, Calbruc, Recury, Pule, Nuane. How the hell does Autechre come up with these titles? Does one of them know a fellow with a nasty speech impediment, or do they just think the words look/sound cool? Tewe? The full-blown "Come to Daddy" video is up on the Warp Records site (no more spooky RDJ twisted faces surrounded by broadcast static -- now we have the Village of the Damned chasing an old lady) but the frame rate is horrendous. RealPlayer's stat page told me the video was encoded at 2.5 fps, but something along the way kept kludging it down to 0.0 fps (uh-huh, I was stuck looking at a frame of Mr. James trying to eat my soul for a minute). "Amp". Will it ever be new again? The episode with Meat Beat Manifesto's "Helter Skelter" and the Orb's "Asylum" was fresh to my eyes 'n ears, but since then the 1 a.m. Sunday morning slot has been rather musty. Adieu question: what is the most money anyone has ever shelled out for an IDM album? For me it was $19.99 for "Auntie Aubrey's Excursions Beyond the Call of Duty" Orb remix album. I haven't even TRIED getting a hold of some extra-rare Aphex Twin material; I'm still smarting from scouring the Bay Area for my beloved "Classics" months ago and now finding copies all over Tower. And how tough is it to find the "On" maxi-single in stores now? I thought it pretty unique to find one copy for $5.99 at Best Buy (I grabbed it right quick, youbetcha). -> CGN cgnava@ix.netcom.com

You don't want to really know... trust me... But, most of the stuff I actually see fetch $$$, I ended up getting very reasonably (Hab II - $15, Hab I - $10, UI red and blue - $10/ea, Phat Lab. Nightmare - $18, etc) The mailorder guys (especially pj @ Modern Music and Stu @ MFR) have been very good to me, and I spend **WAY** too much time devoted to searching for good forsale lists (hell, I started a damn mailing list dedicated to it =) But there's a few items that I personally needed that I dished out $$$$$$ for... I've been real lucky finding IDM jems for cheap. My economically worst experience has been shelling $45 for the Wagon Christ _Sunset Boulevard_ cd ep. Can't complain, though. I've found records like _Spatula Freak_, _Phat Lab Nightmare_, _Analogue Bubblebath 3_, and most of the early Skam material for super cheap. You should have all seen the grin on my mush when I walked out of a Fort Worth house music emporeum with AB3 in one hand, and $9 less in the other. I've given this invitation privately, but I'll extend it to everyone on the list. If anyone here would like to come to Dallas, spend a day at Bill's, and blow a gigantic wad, I'll be more than happy to feed, drive, and shelter you. My roommate and most of my pals are scared to make the trip with me nowadays [they fear being anally raped by Bill and his employees]. But, everytime I go, I find a treasure and have hours of fun looking. Last week, I snagged As One's _Reflections_ doublepack and the Plug 3 white label. It only cost me $35 - cuz Bill thinks I'm cute. A little flirting goes a long way. Oh, Bill's is one of the largest record stores in the galaxy with an electronic section the size of 12 car garage. It's a total mess + there's no prices on anything, but if yer willing to lower yer standards and flirt with the aging Bill, you can get a way with IDMurder. g. teep - thanks for the goods. you will be receiving your dues shortly.

In an Article by NEIL COCKER, Autechre are quoted: We go on to talk about the abstractness of their song titles (C/pach, Rsdio, Eutow etc). "Sometimes" says Rob, speaking for the first time, "parts of the word are relative to the track or they mean something to us or they just sound right". "Ideally," says Sean, pausing for thought "we wouldn't need titles, but they're just a way in which people can tell each other which track they like. Words aren't enough". [ unquote ] I * "Incomplete without surface noise" - Autechre

Idunno... I think I paid close to $40 (CDN) for Mike & Rich. But that's nothing compared to what other folks will shell out for some things.

I've seen the "On" single all over the place lately. np: Ende Neu Remixed ------------------------------------------------------------- Ryan Visima - http://aphex.home.ml.org/ - rvisima@total.net -------------------------------------------------------------
