Sigh... sadly none of this proves your 'point' Lance.
The Black Dog has remixed "BULLITT" by LALO SCHIRFIN. We have *not*
produced the theme music for the Ford Puma car and we have not had
any contact whatsoever with their advertising agency concerning their
ad campaign for the Ford Puma (which also uses this theme music).
Speaking personally I think the Ford Puma Car advertisement is highly
creative, but it has *nothing* to do with us (we're not about to
produce music for Puma's spare parts either, in case you're wondering).
We have, however, been commissioned by Warner to exclusively produce
three remixes of the theme music to "Bullitt" written by legendary 60's
Composer Lalo Schifrin (also responsible for the themes to Dirty Harry and
Mission Impossible). This will be released on 29th September - I'd
provide more information, but I wouldn't want to be accused of
polluting IDM with commecialisation ;)
We consider it a great honour to be working on material by Lalo, an
influential and talented composer (the term genius applies here, imo)
and our remixes are an homage to his style (still very much alive,
incidentally) and the superb title theme to the Bullitt film, featuring
Steve McQueen. No attempt to 'emulate' the Bullitt theme has been
made - you can't improve on perfection (why other artists continue to
try is a mystery to us - create your own perfection).
If you consider The Black Dog's efforts to remix "Bullitt" to be
'selling out' that's your prerogative but I don't share this opinion.
We wanted to work on something by Lalo and we have. But, based on
the fee we'll receive (we've barely broken even, and haven't even been
paid yet - Ken wouldn't do *anything* just 'for the money') I'd say you're
a million miles from the mark and have 'assumed' far too much (since when
did IDM turn into a mailing list equivalent of alt.showbiz.gossip?). Also,
big up to Warner for having the guts to commission an experimental
artist to produce *all* the remixes, as opposed to a 4x4 cheese fest.
Well, must dash, I've got some hardcore creative prostitution to
be getting on with... :)
Cheers,
Keir Jens-Smith
