If you don't mind me asking, what's this like in comparison to Truth Is Born Of Arguments? I have this one but am not overly enamored (lovely sounds used but the lack of variation in the rythms suffers with repeated listens). Should I hunt out Weathered Well? Black Dog "Temple of Transparent Balls" vinyl (2lp) -due to sentiments attached to various listenings of this album, the 6/4 track at the end, and the uplifting beats/melodies and raw digital (FM) timbres that stick in my head. Also the fast bongo tune that I didn't like for so long and have grown to enjoy Also, I don't mind it not having the perfect "album" flow, as I tend to live my life in 6 minute phrases rather than 50 minute ones... solenoid@europa.com <------+

Just got this yesterday... first listen was overly impressed... if you read a few posts on my thoughts on say, the BD Live or Music For Adverts, you'd know how much I looked forward to getting this... but now, after about 4 listens, I'm really starting to dig this much more. What it doesn't have is the exotic flair that really makes me dig the BD, but its very upbeat, very cool melodies and just plain damn good... The cat digs it... =) Keeps trying to curl up next to the speakers... Played Funki Porcini and had the same effect... Tom J, on the other hand, got the cat very hyper. Hmmm...that's a difficult one. I think I'd have to go with Autechre's US release of Tri Repetae (including AV and Garbage). Is that cheating? For some reason, I just never get sick of those disks. Close second however, is 0 (with a line through it, I don't actually know how to pronounce it), Metri. OH yes yes yes, Being a Locust fan I disagree with your assesment of TIBOA, but it's your opinion and I can see why you don't like it too much. I think Weathered Well is a much better produced album, therefor you may like it. It is darker (IMO) and the rhythms are a bit more (oh god I gotta use this word) dance based. WHat I mean by that is to me, TIBOA contains some beats that sound like tribal stuff. WW has beats that sound like they were produced on a drum machine and nowhere else. If you like music that is spooky, _XENOPHOBE_ (track #3), this is a must buy. Like I said, gun to the head, this is the one I'd buy without thinking (it's in my blood!) You mentioned, you don't like it when there is no variation in rhythm. Well, some tracks on WW suffer this (esp. XENO) but the following track WEATHERED GATE I find to have one of the most complex beats ever written. By first glance it just sounds like a dance beat, listen to it through headphones and email me back when you get a total # of layers on that beat. I am still counting!!! I don't know if its simply the effects processors he used on this track, but Mark has got me by the balls on this drum beat. I love it. Layer after layer the beats build and build, then they get stripped, and build right back up exactly when you crave more (its perfect!)
