I've really taken to the Gentle People's debut album - at first listen it sounded a little over-long for a pop album (of sorts), but after a few more, I've decided it's nicely laid-back, Rephlexian music at its most kind and gentle. It also reminds me a *lot* of Pizzicato Five - the harmonies, the arrangements, and the frequent repetition of short catchy and often promotional lines - "I luuuurve the Gentle People", for example. Question: the CD notes say they did a remix of Nav Katze - anyone know where that can be found? The P5 remixes are on their "Great White Wonder" album I think. I am not sure if they've released anything before, but they definitely aren't new. You can hear them greeted in the end of Aphex Twin Ventolin e.p where he gives respect to cylob industries, rob and steve, etc.. -- Hillie aka Aurafix / DAMONES hillien kotisivu - http://www.clark.net/pub/buh/index.html easy internet services - http://huizen.dds.nl/~eis Do re mi fa so la ti.. i hope i'm not attacking a general love of cheese and tackiness on the list, but i enjoy the tracks on the second disc much better; they're generally sans-vocals and rely more on pseudopsychadelic strings + such. near the end, the tunes remind me of every visit to the dentist that required a tooth pulled; swelling musak that's hard to comprehend because you're knocked out on novocaine. spooky and sexymusic. honestly, though, i don't know how much longer this lounge revival thing will last. grant.h.horne http://delta.is.tcu.edu/~ghhorne/

I agree with you there. Although I've only heard the album once, at the store, I didn't like too much the tracks on the first disk, the tracks on the second disk were a lot better. Less vocals, :) and more of nice strings and such.

Well, I was never into the 'lounge' thing, but who knows, I'm always open to different styles of music, so It might grow on me in time. -- Hillie aka Aurafix / DAMONES hillien kotisivu - http://www.clark.net/pub/buh/index.html easy internet services - http://huizen.dds.nl/~eis Do re mi fa so la ti.. Meeeeeeeeee toooooooooooooo, I have fallen in love with the Gentle People! The only review I've ever read on them was in some mag....I can't remember which? But apparently they played a gig somewhere all off DAT while they danced and smoked! Come to think of it I don't know jack about them, oh hang on....they used to be Richard's neighbours. ~~~~~~~~~~~~Trapezoid Amoeba~~~~~~~~~ giv@purescript.com.au~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~http://www1.loom.net.au/home/autumn

I listened to half of it at my record store, and was very put off by the cheesiness factor of it. It's cheeseball lounge music. The first bad release I've heard off of Rephlex.

I posted a review about a month ago. I'm sure it didn't say anything spellbinding, but check the archives if you wish... I just got word that the Gentle People remix disc isn't going to be released in any country but Japan. That's a shame. While that won't prevent me from buying it, it surely makes it more difficult to track it down and will add to the price. One of these days, Rephlex will get their act together, won't they? MC

their eps are a lot better than the album - everyone should have the journey remixes ep, which features an astounding aphex twin remix. their sound is unashamedly kitsch, space age ambient exotica. quite entertaining. <waves>
