check out http://www.alien8recordings.com (i think that's it); it's a canadian label that has just released more stuff from him. he's also done an EP on drop beat early on, plus the first i hear from him was back in 1995 when he did the first album (cd) for the canadian discreet/indiscreet label. i wrote a glowing review of it for the now defunct texas mag hardsync (wish i could find the copy; i'd like to get some of the older reviews up on the site) i think linus from there (i/d) is on the idm list, perhaps he'll chime in if it's available. hope this helps. andrew duke :) ".daevid." wrote:

there's roughly 2 types of david kristian material: the beat-oriented, semi-melodic stuff found on labels like discreet/insiscreet, drop beat & suction, & the way abstract atonal minimalism which was released on the montreal based label alien8. i suppose you'd like the former, so here's a short discog of that style: - d. kristian "synaesthesia" cd (discreet/indiscreet) - d. kristian "national kid" 12" (discreet/indiscreet) - d. kristian "ectopic beat" 12" (drop beat) [also available as a split cd with downpour] - d. kristian / lowfish "suction 002" 12" (suction) - d. kristian "beneath the valley of the modulars" (alien8) compilation appearances: - "altered states of america" cd (lo) - "ischemic folks" cd (schematic) if by some chance you're curious about his experimental work: - d. kristian "cricklewood" cd (alien8) - d. kristian / sian "tacoma narrows bridge / someday anywhere" cd (alien8) - d. kristian "woodworking (cricklewood remixes)" cd (alien8) hope this helps. -- david turgeon at http://www.notype.com

Hey All Alien-8 has put out a few of Daves more minimal releases in the past few years. Most notable is Cricklewood and the remix record of Cricklewood ('Woodworking'). They also just released 'Beneath the Valley of the Modular' which is more beat orientated stuff (it's actually the record Discreet was supposed to release a few years ago...see below)... Myself and Linus used to run Discreet/Indiscreet before various distributors ripped us off and we had to close it up. We put out Dave's first full length in '95 'Synaethesia' and a 12" in '96 called 'Clubfoot'. Still have a few copies hanging around if anyone is interested. Jeff

Got the new EP. I gotta say, and believe me it's tough to type this, but well, I'm bored of Ae. This new one's just not working for me as much as I would like. Besides the fact that it sounds like outtakes from LP5, (which I don't have a problem with, Ae intermix sounds in songs all the time), it sounds like a lot of disconnected noodling. Which to say that about Ae is a big thing I think because one of their strong points for me has always been their cohesivesness and direction, which I don't hear on EP7. Nothing on the disc is grabbing me, no theme or melody or drum pattern or anything...if ever there was an example of all style and no substance, well this would be it. I have to say this is quite possibly the most mediocre of the Ae releases. Unlike the majority of the Ae material which requires more attentive listening, this one actually works better when played in the background when your mind is on something else. I will be interested to hear what others think. I know their have been mixed reviews on this one already, just thought I would add my .02... peace Nate PS besides the secret track (which is gratuitous Metasynth if I ever heard it, I don't maybe I shouldn't have a problem with that), I also noticed there is a fair amount of (gasp) recognizable sounds/loops. For instance people talking, and track 8 has 808 snares and bass drums. What is going on? I am very confused...

I'm pretty sure i have this 12" here, and i'll second that this was amazing, and still is. Is David Kristian recording for Suction records recently, or am i on he wrong wavelength? The other question is if he is Canadian. (Been trying to rack up all my Canadian titles that i've got here, so any help would be great..) Thanks.. As someone else noted, Synaethesia is a CD, not a 12". You're probably thinking of Clubfoot, or National Kid.

He did a split 12" on Suction with one of the boys, but it was over a year ago.

If you still consider Quebec a part of Canada. :) Yeah, he's from Montreal.
