One thing that I do to protect myself when selling ( NO I DON'T TRUST ANYONE, sorry...) is quite simple. Send the goods UPS COD. The items will not be delivered without being paid for. I pick up half the COD charge as a gratuity. COD is 4.75 a box. I knock of 1/2 of this from the total transaction price. This way the buyer knows I'm a nice dude to sport 1/2 the cost of the COD and usually the parties are happy. As far as *trading* through the mail...well, I don't know *how* to guarantee a trade. Blind faith and trust in the inherent goodness of all people? ====================More notes, slightly off the IDM plateau :================================= I have a decent collection of original Detroit ( techno ) vinyl, but it needs to grow. Whats the best Detroit website? Are there other lists than the one on hyperreal? ( which is *great* by the way ) Also... Hip Hop lists? Thanks to those folks who emailed me privately for my list. Its a small one but its a start of a much longer weeding out process. I will take no more names for this sale. I need to keep the competition factor limited. And lastly, thanks for the response(s) on salsa drum and bass. and I have no opinions on Marylyn Manson, except that their debut white label on Replex with the guest appearance by Richard James ( 100 copies ) stands most prominently in my "most collectible" vinyl pile. bpm0@interport.net Peter Becker, Promotions: Retail, DJ Pool Asphodel Records, NYC PO Box 51, Chelsea Station, NY NY 10113 Phone # (212) 965-0265 FAX # (212) 965-0959 http://www.asphodel.com

trades are difficult.. I think it's fair (not really a protective measure) when trading a vinyl that's worth a lot of money for one that's not worth as much or vice versa, whatever the case is, I reckon whoever it is, the person with the least expensive vinyl should send it first and then the person with the expensive one send theirs once they get it. It takes a bit more time, but it's certainly better to wait that to just send the records off with a blindfold on without having nothing to base trust on. I don't trust anyone either, but I've never had any problems (i've only traded once with someone, and sold stuff also) __ __\ \ / /_\ \ \_____/ , m7=

another way to ensure that the goods were received is to send it via certified mail with a return receipt. that way you'll get a card in the mail sent by the post office with the time of delivery and the persons signature who accepted the package. :> just my $1.12. peace... prymal ========== primal@interaccess.com www.interaccess.com/primal/ A New January - electro/techno/synth music www.interaccess.com/primal/january/ ==========

I've never used the service, but there is something called Trade-safe (www.tradesafe.com, I think; I found the link thru www.harmony-central.com) that acts as a neutral third party. I don't recall if there's a fee. I haven't used it b/c I haven't had the need to trade anything via the 'net yet, and I've been happy with the COD option. And I have to keep in mind that there are relatively few losers out there. A few months ago I picked up a used copy of Performer 5 for dirt cheap. The disks were bad, but the guy I bought it from went way out of his way to contact MOTU, get new disks, and send them on to me, without cashing the money order until I was up and running. That's the way it ought to be! J ________ \ / | Bee women: "What kind of corn soldiers are you?" H.
