I've picked up a few things that haven't heard much about D'Arcangelo (Rephlex Cat 039) -- weird looking box (Laserfile??), great crunchy distorted beats. Think Cylob "Industrial Folksongs" (my friend Mike said "whoa! Early Ministry") backed by a couple of cool tracks that sound like New Order Instrumentals. Heavy Rotation at my place. Cristian Vogel "Specific Momentific" (Mille Plateaux CD27) I'll forgive them "Les Etoiles Des Filles Mortes" for putting this out. A very adventurous workout of beat programming and sound design, not really danceable or beatless. Reminds me of Octagon Man in places, but more varied. Nice thing for IDM -- the tracks only last as long as it takes to express the musicial idea. Contrast with the Global Electronic Network, who has great ideas, but the tracks last forever. Robert Williams "The 3 that got away" (All Ears 3) Rob is a friend of mine, so I'm biased, but this goes from cool ass analogue dance tracks to an ambient piece that is as weird as anything released anywhere. State of the art -- you owe yourself a listen. Chain Reaction (Chain Reaction 13 ??) Super lo-fi minimal stuff -- the sound seems to derive it's quality from misuse of studio compressors and mastering from a 3rd generation cassette. Spooky and enthralling. I need to know more about this stuff... The Way/The Deep Global Communications (Dedicated Globa 002ECD) GC do house. The sampled beats remind me of the Herbert project. Smooth and warm, with the kind of careful production they're famous for. Look no further than the Chain Reaction CD compilation available now, my friend. Minimal techno that Kraftwerk would have been making from 1983 to 1986(the period in between COMPUTER WORLD and ELECTRIC CAFE). This is a very fucked up record. I'm still not sure quite what to make of it, but I like it. /:)

Chain Reaction is on. It's a BC sub label fueled by guys that aren't BC. Thomas Koner is in there along with a bunch of the Hardwax guys. 14 and 15 are both great as well (one's Porter Ricks I think and the other is Monolake). gotta keep that Basic Channel thing goin on. now if I can just find Burial Mix 01 and pick up the Porter Ricks cd, I'll be set.
