Sire/Warner, for a heartless conglomerate, should be commended for sticking
with Aphex Twin. As far as I know the US releases of SAW and I Care basically
tanked, and according to the Warner's A&R rep I spoke with, RDJ was
very uncooperative with their promotional efforts. They have done some things
(like releasing both Ventolin EP's in one package) that were a real
entertainment value.
Remember, WB was the label of Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart, Ed Sanders, and
many other weird and uncommercial bands over the years.
You heard it here first (or maybe not) -- the next AFX record on Sire
is going to sell more than the rest of his US releases combined. The
high school kids are getting into stuff like this. It's just a matter of
time before RDJ will be on MTV making a fool out of Kennedy...
